    Question Subbie for a 52W x 4 Headunit problem

    Hey People,

    Got a question....

I want to get either one or two 10" 1000W Boss Audio Sub Woofers for me VR, I have a Sony S2000 CDX head unit which is rated as 52W x 4, I already have two Sony 6x9 120W speakers installed and just running the stock front door speakers.

I wanna know, would the headunit have enough grunt to power one 10' 1000W Subbie?

Or would i have to buy a Amp too?

I'm running on a low budget, so I'd like to go all out but it'll take me longer to save the cash up for something really nice.

i'd say save and get something decent, thats what i did and im happy with it all. Only change in order is a new sub box.

Have a look at jaycar amps, cheap and reliable

    ok, thanks.

I did have a friend a while ago mention something about running some speakers off just the headunit, but they might have only been the 6x9's not Subbies.

Yeh, I'll check out Jaycar. Thanks for the tip

kyle... You should go have a talk to a proper car audio store and find out some info.

For one, a sub COULD be run from a head unit but there would be so little power it would sound terrible.

Secondly, the power ratings you are talking about are MAX and mean absolutely nothing. Your head unit makes about 20-22Wrms and the sub is probably 200Wrms or something so you have nowhere near enough power to run it properly.

Third thing is that Boss Audio is a really shithouse brand.

Fourth, if you're on a tight budget, research what is good and look at second hand stuff

If you don't want second hand, look at the jaycar subs aswell as amps.
