    Question Help tune my amp

Hi guys. Im pretty new to the car audio world but I need help with my amp. I just fitted some Alpine type R splits and I want to know how to set up my amp.

The amp is a 600.4 kicker. I know how to set up the gains and all that but the amp has a knob that says X-Over Freq. What setting should this be at. Its go from 50-200hz, any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Dave

That knob sets the frequency of the filter, there is probably a switch that chooses whether it operates as a low pass(lets bass through) or high pass(lets everything but bass through) filter.

Do you have a sub? Most people set the low pass filter on the sub to 70-80Hz and the same on the high pass filter for the speakers.

Thanks for the quick reply mate. I have two subs so what setting would you recommend for the speakers.

It's best to listen for yourself, but most people set both filters around 80Hz.

All the filters do is make the right frequencies go to the right speakers... Some subs don't sound that great with higher frequencies playing through them, so you set the filter low. Some speakers don't make bas very well so you set the high pass filter higher. You just need to see how your gear reacts.

Try 80Hz and then 100Hz and see if you can hear the difference... If not, leave it at 100Hz as it'll let the speakers play slightly louder without distorting.
