Default Installing HU in 2002 VX

    Hey guys,
Just bought myself a Pioneer 6850 and will pick up tomorrow. Just wondering if I'll need a special bracket to install it or anything? Some basic info will help heaps if it's needed.
Also, I need an idea of what to put into the other DIN. Since the stock HU is double and this is single, I need to patch it up. I've seen one of those 4 cd holders in JB for like $80, but is there anything else that would be more practical or just something different I could put in there? Thanks =)

you can put a console piece in there, or you can buy a flat piece that goes ther aswell.

This question has been asked MANY times... There is alot of useful info if you search

A DIN pocket goes in the bottom space.

I did search afterwards and found the info I needed, sorry guys =P

Found a cup holder, cd holder etc. I wan't something practical in there not just a cover up. I think I'll pay the $50 for the cd holder.

Paid the $50, but still waiting on my headunit to arrive at the store. 2 days late now, I might give them a call. But I have another question!

I've spent the last hour searching, so please don't bite my head off if this has been asked/aswered.

I was in Autobarn yesterday buying a wiring plug for the VX, and from what I've read, I'll need another wiring plug from VX-> Pioneer. Unless I solder them in, so I think I'll just go ahead and solder them. Anyway, the guy there told me not to bother screwing the Head Unit OR the CD Pocket into the dash. He said to drill holes in the bracket, and use pop-rivets to attach the headunit into the DIN. I got absolutely NFI what he's talking about.

Can I just take off the dash facia and screw the new brackets in? Or will there be a bit more work to it than that? I wan't to have all my info ready before I start pulling bits apart only to realise I've wasted 3 hours of my time (exaggerated). So yeah, how difficult is it going to be to screw these things in to a VX?

Also, stupid question, but can anyone give me an idea of what screws I need? Will help knowing before I start installing.

    Much appreciated guys.

The Pioneer head unit comes with a loom that plugs into it and has colour coded wires... Autobarn sell a loom that plugs into the car and has the same colour coding as the Pioneer loom, so you just match the coloured wires together. It's best to get some heatshrink and solder them together.

    There are a few ways to mount the new head unit;
    1. Head unit comes with a metal cradle/bracket that can be jammed into the dash. You might need to knock the stock metal out a bit with a hammer if it is too tight. But it still needs to be tight enough to support the head unit so only knock it out in small amounts.
    2. Take dash apart, drill holes in stock metal and screw unit in. This takes a long time as the whole dash needs to come apart and then you have to precisely drill so the head unit sits at the right depth. It could easily take 3 hours.
    3. You can get a strip of the perforated metal stripping and mount like this.
    4. You can do what you said and somehow drill holes in the stock metal, mount cradle/bracket that came with the head unit, and rivet it in place. So the rivets are supporting it rather than the tension like in option 1.

You won't need any screws in 2 of the above methods, the other two you can probably use the screws provided with the head unit.

[edit] The forum has censored the link above, so just go looking on CAA or SC websites, it should be on both. The link is for SC though.

When i put my Pioneer in my VS i just drilled the standard bracket to fit the pioneer. soldered the vs-universal adapter onto the loom that comes with the HU.

don't know how different it is in a VX though,,, took about 2-3 hours for me including alot of stuffing around... pulling the dash out, soldering, not knowing what i was doing :P etc
    Driving a CURSED WH V6.

haha yeah it popped off sometime during fitting the dash back into place and forgot to put it back on. When I was finished I realised what I'd done and couldn't be bothered with the stuffing around. I'm gonna tape the surround on for NOW, and will get to it within the next few weeks. Congrats, you're the first to notice.

Man if a sales guy told me to drill into my HU and pop rivets into it to hold it into the DIN cavity I would've told him to shove his thumb up his arse. What a knob!

No wonder why I get so many friends or relatives asking for help to fix a problem with their audio system shortly after they got it installed from a retailer.

Anyways, there's many things you can do with the 2nd part of the DIN cavity. Some people buy the extra pocket to throw their change and shite in there, others do the CD stacker idea. Seen some people put a double DIN HU but mostly it's a CD/MP3/Mini-Disc flavour. I've put my Fusion HU on the top part and a Uniden CB radio on the bottom. Works well, no noise through any of the connections so I'm happy. Get to play my music whilst listening to the cops playing Snooker.

    Red cars first! Watch out!

No wonder I fix head units with holes drilled in the side and metal shavings linking the internal amp's legs and the customer wondering why their new head unit had smoke coming out of it
