Ok, finished installing the headunit yesterday. All wired up and running fine. But the antenna comes up when there's a cd playing instead of only being up for the radio. Is there any way to stop this happening? I know it's not a major concern but I hate the look of the antenna being up.
Is there a fuse I can remove that will just stop it from raising? That I can put back in when I want the radio on. I know it sounds like alot of screwing around for such a small 'problem' but, put my mind at rest?
You can put a switch in line with the wire that powers the antenna. Or you could remove a fuse if you could work out which fuse it is... as long as it doesn't kill anything else![]()
or you could replace the aerial with a manual one, that you have to pull up? might be more convenient than the fuse...
I had a switch put in when my headunit was installed. That would be the best idea
Eh I'm not pulling out the whole dash again (I screwed the HU in). I'll deal with it. Thanks.
You may find you have connected the amp remote/trigger wire to the electric antenna trigger wire on the H/U, instead of the electric antenna trigger wire.
The difference being that the amp trigger wire has power when the H/U is on at all times (which is what your describing), and the electric antenna trigger wire only has power when the radio is on.
You should always test these things before you screw it all back in.
mines connected with adaptors, and it stays up all the time - maybe it depends on the HU as well?
Yep, was only the one wire there. I was hoping it acted like a relay when the radio was switched on. Believe me, I did test everything before putting back together. Just before I connected the battery back up I remembered I hadn't connected the earth yet. So yes, I remember the testing phase =P
I have the same problem, i am going to put a switch in the line when i get around to it. I want to source the button that comes factory in some models next to the T/C button so i can rig it up to that... but i've been a bit lazy.
Drive it
Like ya stole it!
If you know an electronics tech, they could actually add a relay to a tunner supply or turn on voltage and create a proper antenna wire that only works when the tuner is selected.
This could be as simple as checking you HU settings.. I have a sony deck that does that after a reset (factory settings) all it is, is a auto tuning setting, or the emergancy broadcast setting (im guessing that ones for the states or something) that automatically detects radio station frequency changes (and emergency broadcasts, aparently cutting whatever is on and playing the broad cast if it receives one..). If either of those is on your antenna will be up all the time, turn it off, and it will only be up if on CD.
