Sound quality, build quality, how loud it's able to go while still sounding good, what they're made of..
You should always listen to a set of speakers before investing in them!
Yep, what they sound like to you vs price.
JVC
Focal
JL Audio
VDO Dayton
Jaycar
Dynamat Extreme/Dynaxorb

what makes a ferrari f50 one of the best road cars ever built? everything; working in harmony, you cant narrow it down to any one part.
same is with a speaker, the sorround, cone shape, weight and stiffness, basket strength, magnet quality and the shape of the field produced, quality of materials used, spyder and the VC of course. power handling really doesnt mean much if you are after a great speaker, its like having a 800kw commodore, sure its fast but the ferrari is a much better package. also this is just my view but i wouldnt care too much about the frequency range. just because a speaker has a large frequency range doesnt automatically mean it is a great speaker at reproducing those certain frequencies.
this is why i didnt bother looking at the frequency range OR power handling of my nakamichi's, i they were highly recommended by a very knowlagable man in american whose opinion i trust, and thats why i didnt even feel the need to listen to them first. i just wanted aspeaker that would reproduce the music as naturally as possible.
were not comparing ferraris mate were comparing high end db sound audio any of the top brands, pioneer, blupunkt, kenwood, alpine, sony, kicker ,fusion, jbl, jvc etc... have all good products. Some have areas of excellence.Originally Posted by garfa
in my view pioneer and JVC are up there. tho speak to a audio professional and compared price, power, brand and sound and ya can't go wrong.

Subdue... You didn't even mention a high end brand there.
Anyway, you can't tell how good or bad a speaker will sound from the specs, you really need to listen to them with your own ears. As I pointed out above, Subdue thinks those brands sound good, but I don't, everyone has different tastes and opinions![]()
pioneer and JVC up there? up where?
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

Clarion have decent sound quality but are not good at loud volumes. Soundstream are good, Infinity is good, JL are good (all IMO). but it really comes down to personal experience with the brands and whats in your price range. If you don't know about a brand don't buy it until you have read some online reviews (thats what they are there for, specific model numbers are reviewed)
sorry, i will never speak again. just because a speaker is made from the above brands with decent power handling and i guess that makes it good........Originally Posted by subdue
yes the ferrari Vs powerful commodore is a perfect analogy, the commodore isn't even in the same league as the ferrari even though it has heaps of power.
its the whole thing that makes the car (or speaker) great. you cant narrow it down to one thing(such as power handling).
stonex: people think those brands are good because they havent heard anything else.![]()
