    Default Eurovox headunit with amp?

Hi, i just recently installed new speakers into my VS statesman. I have 6 by 9's in the back and 6's in the front.. they sound really distorted at the moment.. but i dont want a new head unit (its the stock eurovox one), for the fact that i dont want to lose my steering wheel controls and stacker. I was wondering if a 4 channel amp will do the job in making it sound better and if so is there anything i have to get rid of besides the head unit in order for this to work?

    Hey,
I've got a Statesman the same as yours, but i haven't touched any of the speakers, headunit or nothin. All i did was put a couple of subs in the boot to handle the bass, and now it sounds really good. I don't seem to get any distortion at all, can go as loud as i want! Thought about updating the stock speakers, but can't see the need at the moment. I was told the Statesmans came with a small Eurovox amp standard, saw one on Ebay once, part of the complete stock system out of a Stato. Mine certainly sounds like it has one!

It sounds like there could only be 2 causes for you distortion..
    1. Outside interference (maybe)
    2. Headunit is creating the signal (probably)

The problem with the stock units, is there isn't any RCA outputs on it, therefore to connect an amp you need to get an adaptor that connects to the actual speaker wires. But if the headunit is creating the distortion, you will get the same through the adaptor, and therefore the amp and the speakers. Not sure what you could do really....Sorry.

Yeah i bought an RCA output adaptor so thats all good.. And as for the distortion its not like staticy crap its the kind of sound a speaker makes when its trying to run too loud.. And my guess is that the stock headunit just cant pump out enough power to those speakers at the volume i want to listen to them at.. i mean at a lower volume theyre clear as.. but when i pump the volume up they really struggle and has a crackling bass sound.. perfect treble but.. so im not sure if theres really a distortion.. it just sounds like its struggling thats all.. if you get me :S anyway thanks for your help

Yeah sounds like exactly the problem I had in my esteem. New Pioneer 4x50W HU fixed it no worries at all. New amp would give you the results you are after in the stato.

Let me know how it goes btw, looking to do the same thing to a vsII calais.

Now it's said the VS2 Calais and Stato have an 8 speaker system... do you have any idea where the feck they are all hidden?

Heh yeah that's what everyone keeps saying to me... except all documentation on it says 8 (but doesn't go into any more detail than that).

Oh well.. 6 is good including the splits... means i only need one amp
