    Default Insane boot rattle

I have a severe problem of boot rattle in my VR berlina. Its so bad that at high volumes it sounds terrible because all you can hear is the sound of metal vibrating What are some techniques to prevent it and what are the main problem areas where the boot rattles the most?

Under the spare tyre is a little vent which seems to vibrate, what can be done about that? Also something seems to be vibrating undernear the car, the sound is coming from around the fuel tank area. Is there anything under there that I should check out in particular?

Thanks for any help as it really spoils the sound of my car audio

roof and gutter silicone is your friend, use it to fix things you might think are loose, and put a bead of it between your bootlid and its subframe. use roof and gutter as it is not acetic based, and wont cause rust. then, get a good quality sound deadener, like dynamat or stinger (there are others) and layer it on your quarter panels and bootlid, and anywhere else you feel like. see how that goes.

    Check your bolts too.

Mate had a similar problem with his aftermarket spoiler. Wasn't bothering him too much but it annoyed the living f..k out of me! Checked the bolts on it and about 30min later using a torque driver, tightened a few of the bolts up, removed 2 bolts that I thought were a bit small so replaced them with bigger ones with a slightly larger thread (had to re-tap the holes).

There was still a very slight rattle but it was tolerable now. It ain't my car but if I'm a passenger and I have to listen to boot rattle all the way to Ballarat, I'll bloody well put in the 30min effort to shut it up.

liquid nails is stuff builders use to make sure stuff sticks to stuff without eva moving again.. ... ya can try it.. tho id never put it anyway near a car... if its ur numberplates thats annoying u try buying rubber gromits for it.. aswell as alittle foam underneath should fix ur problem...if not.... ducktape ur numberpate down so it doesnt move

strips of adhesive foam pllaced on their edges allow them to work and not rattle.

nah, I don't seal them...just strips of foam...that weather strip foam you put around the edges of your house doors works well.

It's a little heavy so the vents are stiffer but they stil definetly work

    Default Dynamat is your friend

It may be a little bit more expensive but id line the top of your boot with some dynamat which you can pick up from car audio shops. Should make a big difference
