Hi guys,
I've got a vr commy running a Pioneer HU & stocker 6" speakers.
Im planning on upgrading speakers by adding,
# 2X12" MTX 400w subbies
# Sony 6" 180w front doors
# Sony 6" 180w rear parcel shelf
# Sony 4" 120w front doors
Im hoping to run the subs + 1 set of 6" off 1 amp.
1. can this be done
2. what amp would i need to do this
3. if i cant do this and need 2 amps i would like to run both sets of 6" aswell
4. again what amps would be needed
bearing in mind trying to spend as little as possible.
Cheers!
aslo if i drop 1 12" sub and change the other to a 15" would this be easier as i would only need 1 amp.
Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated.
If you're going to have a set of 6" in the front doors, why would you also have 4" in the front doors? Wouldn't a set of 6" 3-way co-axials be enough? Or a set of 6" splits?
If you did that then it would be very easy to run the subs and a set of 6" off the amp, and the other set of 6" off the h/u.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.

4 is enough. I would run a pair of 6" with splits in my front doors and the 3way's (6") in the parcel shelf. The HU should be enough to do the powering if not get a D class 4X50 (4X100 if you HAVE to...id say no) and that will run all four of thoese...however im sure the HU can handle it if its good. The subs can be run off 1 good 2channel or 4channel bridged. You could use a 15" with a bridged 2 channel but i wouldn't bother as the bass from 2 12"s is better than one 15" IMHO.
In summary:
4 Speakers:
-2 6" splits in front doors
-2 6" 3ways in parcel shelf
2 Subs:
-2 12" in boot
1 Amp:
-1 100W 2 Channel Amp
(Maybe a 4X50W for the speakers)
aZk.
in that case would i be better off buying 2 amps 1 for subs and 1 for speakers?
can u recommend any amps and wat would i be looking at in $$$$?
should i get 2 of the same 4X50's?
give us the exact model numbers of the subs or a price eange for the sub/s and amp and we will find you something.
i want to spend about 400 hundred on 2X12" subs and an amp and would be as happy as larry if i could run 6" sppeakers off the same amp. but i dont think this can be done????
well there are a few problems with wanting 2 subs and amp for 400.
remember cabling cost around 60-100. so thats 300 for 2 subs and an amp left. 150-200 for a crap amp that will have enough trouble powering 1 sub and wont be any good for 2. and then thats 50 ea for the subs left.
i am not saying you cant get 2 subs and an amp with cable for 400 but it will not be very good at all. probably sub-boss quality. if you just are happy with 1 sub then you can get everything you need for 400 from jaycar. eg: 12 inch sub and a good amp with cabling.
as for using the sub's amp for speakers it really isn't as great idea. the power a sub needs is a few times that of a speaker and so if you used a amp capable of driving subs would wont stuff your speakers and if you used a speaker's amp you would stuff your sub because of distorsion. 12voltking has written up a beginners guide to distorsion somewhere.
i would be allowing for a 2 sub system about $1000 minimum! 200 per sub and 400-500 for an amp and then the rest for cable and deadening.
not trying to be an arse but the 4x50 aint any good for subs and its a class ab not d. you would be better off with the 2x150.Originally Posted by azkwazere
