Who taught you to do this?
ive never had pins bend or fall out, The pins i use are designed forthis use and are bloody tight in the "car side" of the plug with no movement at all.
I will admit, when it comes to Alarms, i solder.
Headunits are the ONLY time i use pins as it is company policy as we offer Free Removal of the system and refit of stock units if the car is to be sold.
Who taught you to do this?
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
This guide was so helpful thankyou very much!

thx for this post. very thorough! just put new unit in wife's vn.
Hi there, great info in here. In my 89 VN i have 11 wires at the stereo connector and none of them seem to be a ground. Could the original stereo have used the case and mounting screws as the ground when screwed in ??
There is no black wire in the loom and the car does have an electrical aerial.
These are the colour wires i have and from this site i think these are what each colour wire is for.
Orange/white stripe = constant 12V
yellow = accesories
yellow/red stripe= elec aerial
Speakers-
light green(+) & dark green(-) = front right
tan(+) & grey(-) = front left
blue/brown stripe(+) & blue/black stripe(-) = rear right
brown/black stripe(+) & yellow/bluestripe (-) = rear left
Any suggestions
Cheers
Yep your right there about the wiring colours. I think the earth should be in the centre of the stock plug??
Anyway generally i dont use the factory earth wire, i either make my own by routing a wire to a solid metal section, but with the VN-VS commodores i dont connect an earth wire, the unit earths through its chassis and the stereo screws to the metal frame so thats as good an earth as your going to get bar running a 12awg wire straight to your battery
So yep, basically just connect all the other wires and make sure not to turn the head-unit on without mounting it first, otherwise it will try and earth through the antenna cable (not good).

Thanks mate,
I partly pulled apart a mates stereo at work during lunch today and it was different again.
It had no black at all but there was a white one in there, same year as mine.
maybe only early models used the case as earth.
Should be able to get to it tomorrow and get some tunes going again
Cheers
