g;day
ive been tossing up an idea for a while and was wonding if you guys can shed some light in my direction.
I'm not a big fan of the flip DVD screens, so i wanted to mount one in dash, left of centre, slightly angled to the driver. heres a pic of where it would sit.
(pic was from hotrod32, with some sexy interior)
i was thinking of cutting the bottom into the dash and fibreglassing the surround to make it flow more with nice curves.
has anyone heard of this being done? ive seen gauges fibreglassed in but not a screen,
Also, with the Dvd head unit (no specific model yet), does any know any put out a video when playing MP3's (like winamp)
any ideas or if you would recommend anything different give me a yel,
cheers
scott
ive seen it done, not in a commodore, fibteglassing the screen into the dash. IF its done right, it looks the goods. i think it was on www.mp3car.com
hmm, possible, you would have to recover the whole dash though, to look passable. maybe convert to a statesman dash, as they have the split dont they, so youd only have to recover half the dash.
yeh but a half-half dash wouldnt look the best. any idea what to recover the dash with?
my dad recommended either fibreglassing or sanding over the texture on the dash, but both of these sound like a big job.
Any idea how much i would be looking at for a second hand dash?
$50 at wreckers for a 2nd crashpad.

has anyone covered their dash? like suede or something
it costs $110 to get a crashpad re-trimmed average.

oh another quick question. (sorry)
but if i sand down the textured surface and painted it, would there be a difference between the finish on the fibreglass and dash?
not really
Not just the dash, has anyone covered the dash and surrounds, transmission tunnel and Plastic on seat backs in suede? I think buckskin would look alright if done properly.Originally Posted by Snotty

no-one?
well i guess it will be blind leading the blind, going to get a spare dash in a few days and take it from there. the main problem will be if i paint it there will be a hell of a bad reflection onto the windscreen
Velvet interiors give me the horn.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
go for a matte colour instead of glossy.Originally Posted by Snotty
