6.5" 3-way coaxial
6.5" 2-way splits
Looking at making a custom parcel shelf for some half descent speakers, and I'm not going to screw around with 6*9's.
Just wondering if either would be better than the other.
I've got some nice 4" splits in the front (no, I'm not going to put 6" in the front), and I'll end up with a couple of 12" subs in the boot (hence no 6*9's).

I'd go the coaxials in the rear. Sound quality is not as important back there. will the front be able to compete with all that stuff up the back?
Yeah, the splits in the front will be able to hold their own against whatever I put in the back. Anyway, get a bit clever with the tuning on the amp and it's not going to be an issue. Ultimately I'm after quality before sound pressure.

My poll vote is on basis of the question. Coaxial pointed straight up from shelf so treble reflects off rear window works well.
Real question is what speakers;
-magnet size,
-cone and surround material,-
-resonant ffrequency,
-sensitivity etc. etc?
It has to be horses for courses to suit the vehicle, the owner's requirements and budget.

Speakers under consideration are the Fusion FES653 or the Fusion FEC65, both can be found:

At the moment, I haven't built the shelf so I can build it to suit either. As for requirements, I want it to sound good, simple as that. I'm not trying to make my ears bleed, I just want good sound quality. And to my ears Fusion sounds fairly good for the price.

What brand 4 inch splits do you have in the front? Do they fit under the grills or not?
The fronts are the Fusion FEC4, they fitted in the dash, but I had to leave the grills off them, that said I have a factory dash mat which covers themThe idea of this stuff it to keep the front end of the car looking fairly stock, the parcel shelf is going to have a TON of crap hidden under it (wireless network setup, cooling fans, 4-port router...) and the boot is going to look like something out of starwars by the time I'm done with it.

What do you think of the 4 inch Splits? I have some Soundstream Tarantula 4 inch which are 85wrms but they are only co-axials. Great speakers for 4 inch though. I was going to go for the Soundstream 4 inch splits, but I was told they're not worth it in that size. Whats your opinion seeing as you have them??
Hey, I like the Fusion splits, really nice crisp highs, well...to my ears anyway. I've had passengers tell me that they sound muddy, I've also had passengers tell me they sound tinny. I'm happy with them. They weren't cheap, but I'm willing to spend the money to get something that sounds good to me.

Well as long as it sounds good to you, thats what counts. If anyone in your car gives them shit...make em walk.
Shame you're over in Adelaide, otherwise you could have a listen for yourself. All the stores that I've been into with Fusion gear for sale, will usually set it up so you can have a listen before you hand over your money.
Ask them about it, that way you can have a listen for yourself. After all, the key to car sound systems is what sounds good to you.

I havent actually seen the fusion splits in a store before, but i do listen to speakers before i buy them. Im very happy with my Soundstream Tarantula 4 inch...very happy with Soundstream sound in general. Great brand in my opinion, n they are the most awarded car audio brand in the world. Expensive though.
If you're happy with them, don't change them. Sure, I love my splits, but if you've got some good sounding coax speakers, stick with them.
