Hey everyone,
just down at my local wrecker mate's and spied a current model pioneer 10" sub and an enclosure that had just been ripped out of a VT. Got it for $50 cash!He also offered me a Boss BA-2200 amp for 50 bucks, and after hummin and harrin a bit i decided not to, as itd probably set on fire in a couple months.
Anyway, now i need to buy an amp to run the sub! The sub is rated at 350w rms and id also like to amp my front speakers, rated at 60w rms each. I've been looking into the jaycar amps as they provide cheap power altho I've heard good and bad things about them. Technically, the 4x100w amp they make should be able to handle being pushed pretty close to its limits to power all my speakers, however I've heard it hasn't been able to handle it. Anyone care to shed some light on their past experiences with jaycar amps?
I know that the build quality is pretty sub par... their circuit boards look worse than my efforts making a PIC at uni... damn unsteady hand. But if they are rated to provide that much power then they should be able to handle it... right, right??
Also why does it seem that everyone who drives a commodore buys pioneer speakers? I've had 2 sets of coax's, a pair of 6x9s and now this sub all taken out of commodores. On rare occasions sony xplod stuff comes up but its not worth the effort to take out!
cheers
bye
lol, mate a circuit board isnt suppose to look pretty, if you want a circuit board on an amp that looks good, spend $10,000 on an Audison Thesis amp.
Buy the jaycar amp, its decent quality, use 2 channels for the front speakers, and bridge the last 2 channels for your sub. Perfect.
you will not find anything better for the price apartantly. also just because the speakers and sub are rated at whatever it doesnt mean they will be running at that.
lets say the spekers are running at 40Wrms each. 80wrms total. and the sub is at about 200-250wrms. (these figure are way high but just for illistration.) so for a class ab amp at 70% effienciency thats 360-430wrms total. at 13.8V thats only 30amps current draw.
dont worry about it, the amp will be fine!
i run two sony 12" 350wrms subs off one of those $300 buck amps without a problem
Jaycar amps are among the best i have used and the price is an even bigger bonus, i brought one a while ago where the user touched the 12v supply line to the speaker terminal of the amp and it still works except for the burn mark in the connector.
