    Default What Fuse?

    Hi everyone.
I need to know what size fuse I need to use on my system
I have 2 x 1000w Daytona subs which I am about to connect up to an 1800w amp. I have 4 gauge power wire connecting the amp to the battery. What size fuse will I need to have. I have been told around 150amp??? is this correct.

    Cheers

Technical - Fuses and power cable size

    http://www.bcae1.com/fuses.htm

The main fuse is to protect the car/power wire if it shorts out, so it has to be rated lower than the cable. 4ga is rated to flow about 135A so a 150A fuse is way too big... The cable will get hot and possibly melt before the fuse blows.

The way I've always worked it was just add up the total current rating of the fuses in the amp(s) that I'm working with. Make sure that it's about 10A higher than that. That's what I normally go on.

That amp has 50A worth of fuses. So a 60A fuse is all you would need on the main power cable unless you are running any other amps.

The amp is actually 240Wrms, 1800W is just a bullshit number they've made up.

how about advertising that it contains MOSFETs to sound cool? I guess it sounds better than just advertising that the amp contains transistors?
