gotta get bass from some were if ya have no subs
i am with you about subs and 6x9's but no sub and 6x9s is good with me
I'm not big on 6x9's... more so just due to the fact they stand out like dogs balls.
I'd much rather some good quality 6.5" under the stock covers. If you want real bass get subs.
Driving a CURSED WH V6.
interesting poll.....
Got 6x9's in my hz. great quality and bass. love them without subs.
6x9's don't even make real bass, they make midbass.
If you CANNOT have subs, then 6x9's are pretty much your only option for a bit of lower frequencies... But there is always a way to have subs![]()
6x9's are like mullets and moustaches, they belong in the 80's.
dude if its stupid u don't have to post.. but by the sounds of it.. most people are on the same line as me....Originally Posted by highendrev

(looks at poll results... looks at the opinion of dajope...... cant make the connection about hating 6x9s.......scratches a*se and wonders where the "dont really mind 6x9s" option on the poll is.......leaves thread......)Originally Posted by `daj0pe
why are 6x9's the second best option if you dont want a sub?
is it only because of their size compared to 6's?
im looking to get 10" pioneers (not subs) and they supposedly reach lower frequencies than most 6x9's i could find.. is it just their size?
most people cant be fagged mounting a 8inch speaker for midrange in their doors so 6inchers are the main thing used to mid range.Originally Posted by XeSSiV
more cone area = more air displaced by the driver = lower frequency range. so yes 10 inch will have more cone area than a 6x9, thus a lower frequency range. but why would you use 10 inchers for anything but 90-700hz anyways? a 10inch mid/lower mid range drivers arent that common. usually people are happy with a 1 inch 4 inch 8 inch and a couple of subs.
Different size speakers play different frequencies better... That's why your home speakers will usually have a tweeter for treble (cymbals, etc), a middle sized speaker (3" to 7") midrange (mainly guitars, vocals, etc), and a woofer (7" to 15") for bass and possibly midbass (drums, bass guiter, etc).
So in car for good balance sound, people usually use tweeters, woofer (4" to 8") and subwoofers (10" to 15").
With your 10" Pioneer speakers, they won't play vocals, guitars, etc as good as a 4" - 8". Just like 6x9's aren't great for that frequency range like 6/6.5's would be.
i don't hate them.
i had a good set of clarion 2ways a while ago which were good.
my dad has 2 alpine 6x9s in a kingswood which sound bloody good, compared to standard and your average honda civic boy racer stereo they kick ass.
I have an inline 4!
Inline 4 on the left, inline 4 on the right.

**Pointless thread if you ask me**
No, there is a point... It might show people new to car audio that 6x9's are not required when doing a decent stereo. They actually make a good stereo sound bad.

Nowhere in this does it discuss newbies fitting out a stereo system. As you said it might show new people, though that has nothing to do with the first point raised.
i have just recieved a negitive feedback for this post quoted above! and there was no name left. could someone supply me with one? or even own up?Originally Posted by garfa
i dont see how expressing my opinion of wanting a "dont really mind 6x9's" option was being negitive.
If ur not running subs then 6x9's will do ,,,,,,,BUT WHO DOESNT WANT SUBS...........nothing beats the DOOF DOOF factor..LOL

Hey StoneX, I didn't mean any harm or anything against you in the thread bro.
Hey guys just a question.
Im pretty new when talking about car audio, but why the debate about 6x9s? what else could you use? what are the other options? i still have my stock rear speakers in my VR i think there 6" im wanting to replace them.
I have a panasonic HU, splits at the front, sub in the boot and an amp, im thinking of gettin another amp and attaching them to the rear speakers im just not too sure what kind i should get any help ppl?
the main reason to avoid 6x9s is because the oval shaped cone is not as ridged as a round cone, and hence it will "colour" (change) the frequency curve produced (eg: make some frequencies louder than others).
so it is better for you to buy round speakers if you have a sub. there is really no need for 6x9s.

So for the rears would you recommend a pair of 6" ? If so that be producing similar sound to the front speakers yea, and that is the SQ i should be aiming for right?
yes 6-6.5 inch are better. but remember that the rear drivers are only for rear fill, that is they just make sound to fill the car. you should pend something like 70% on the fronts and the remaining 30% on the rears. thats how important to SQ they are.Originally Posted by cacaman
