hey, i wanna put a 4 channel amp in my VS wagon. Its gonna power two pioneer 260 watt 6 x 9's, and two 800 watt 8 inch JBL subs. My main objective is to keep it all discrete, therefore i want to keep the amp hidden.... what is the best amp to use, and where do u recommend that i place it? thanks guys
since its a wagon, maybe you should build a false floor that goes up against the back of the rear seat? how much do you want to spend on an amp?
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD

Yeh ive thought of builing a false floor but im trying to keep the wagon as functional as possible. maybe i could just build the false floor for one half of the bak seats, so that i can stil fold down the other half. is this hard to do? im only really willing to spend about $250 on an amp.
Thanks alot mate
i agree. good amps. i plan on getting one soon tooOriginally Posted by ucwepn

hey this may be a stupid question but i just need to know. when they say an amp has a power output of say 500watts... does that mean the amp will push out 500watts of power per channel, or does it mean that 500watts is its maximum poweer all together. cheers![]()
when they say 500watts or whatever watts they say on the box next to peak or max power that is not the real figure. Its the RMS or nominal power figure that you should go by. 500watts in a 2 channel will be say 250w x 2. rms is the real power figure for speakers subs and amps. So check the RMS rating of the speakers you want to run and get an amp to match that.
thanks alot... has anybody got any good ideas for where to mount an amp in my vs wagon... i want it to be hidden somewhere but i am out of ideas!! Any help will do.
Under the passenger seat?
yeah sounds good, is there any worries with the amp overheating down there? would i have the amp fixed the the seat, upside down ... or fixed to the floor??? cheers
if your going to have your sub box behind your back seats, why not bolt the amp to the back of the subbox so its hidden inbetween the box and rear seat
For starters it's not good for the health of the amp to bolt it to the back (or any side) of the sub box, the vibrations don't help them.
Also, if someone breaks in and decides they want your subs, then when they lift the sub box out they get a free amp as well.
I'm not saying it's the worst spot to put the amp, I'm just saying that it isn't the best.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
yeh i think im gonna put it under the passengers seat... should i bolt it to the floor? will it overheat down there?
i've mounted all my amps under the front seats bolt them to the floor and no they wont overheat i am always runnin my system hard and never had a problemOriginally Posted by james_and_ his_VS
I like to take the panelling out in the VS wagons and hide the amp in there.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
which panelling are u talkin about?
the paneling on the sides.
but like where abouts....
a note on mounting under front seats... make sure it fits under the seat as there really isn't that much room under there and an idea i heard off someone else that works well is to stick an MDF board slightly bigger than the amp underneath the carpet under the seat where the amp is going to be mounted and then mount it to the MDF board through the carpet. Saves you destroying your car or drilling through something you didn't want to and your amp shouldn't budge.
As for panels, i've never even seen in the back of a wagon, but i'm assuming there's some plastic panels along the sides somewhere that either "pop" out or come out with minimal effort.
Cheers, Bryce.
sorry it seemed obvious to me, but on the sides of the wagon. that pannelling.Originally Posted by james_and_ his_VS
ohh ok thanks guys
how much room is in that panelling?? how many amps couls i get in there??
exactly 3.54342 amplifiers will fit behind that panelling.
dont be a wanker
lol dude i'm just joking. maybe if your provide info on what amps your planning on fitting in there it could be some help. Or perhaps someone would be able to just tell you approximately how much surface area is back there. Last time i checked all amps weren't the same size, so how is someone supposed to answer that question? Cheers, Bryce.
