hey guys.. i got a new car and ripped out the amp and sub from my oldy. i couldnt be bothered pulling all the wires through so without thinking i just cut it all off and pulled it straight out. ive still got the amp and sub but i need to know whether a normal wiring kit will do the job? or if i need the wires which come with the amp when u buy it???
Any help will do, cheers
hey dude how's it going? Ok, a few things to consider. You could probably just go for a single amp wiring kit, just make sure you get one of an appropriate "gauge" power. Can you give us an idea of what wrms total you are planning on running from your said amp and sub?
Sometimes you can save yourself a bit of money by buying all the cabling seperate and it might also give you some more options in choice. You'll need:
RCA cables to run from headunit to amplifier, a remote cable (thin, i believe 16AWG is a good size) to run from headunit to amplifier, a power cable to run from your battery to your amp (once again, this is where we'll need to know how much power your running before we can say what size would be best. also should be at least 6 metres for a commodore sedan as a general rule of thumb), a ground cable (of equal size or bigger than your power cable. this should be as short as possible, most amp wiring kits provide 1 metre ground cable. this will need to be grounded to a solid metal part of the car) and speaker cables to go from your amplifier to your speakers.
so here's cabling you'll need:
power cable
ground cable
remote cable
RCA's
speaker cable
By the way, very few amplifiers will come with wiring. You generally get the amplifier and the amplifier only.
Cheers and best of luck![]()
thanks mate, yeh im pretty sure on the wiring kit i need. im running an 800w sub off a 300watt amp (850wat 'max power').
its just that the amp came with a few wires including the remote wire... which is deceased. will the amp still run normally without the remote? or should i create a ground from the remote terminall?
thanks mate
the remote tells the amp to "turn on" and wont function without it. run a remote wire from the remote wire on the head unit to the remote terninal on the amp.
what azzfox said, the remote wire runs from the headunit to the amplifier. when the headunit is turned on that sends a signal to the amp telling it to turn on. Some headunits may not have a "remote" wire - in this case you can connect it to the accessories wire, your amp will just turn on whenever you have your car accessories on instead of whenever you have your headunit on. if your looking for help on the right wire size, just look here: http://www.the12volt.com/info/recwirsz.asp
cheers.
