noise suppresors???

hi,
i've got a boss amp in my car that i'm getting BAD engine noise through my question is has anyone tried those in-line noise suppresors you can buy??? i tried running a new earth for the amp and i'm pretty sure the earth on the head unit is good... does anybody know of anything else i can try to get rid of this horrible noise it's that bad i can't stand it turned on!! if i don't start the car it's fine!!

The easiest way to find out what is wrong is to replace components one at a time... Borrow a mate's amp, does it still make the noise... Borrow some new RCA's, borrow a new head unit (if possible)... That way you will find out what the actual fault is then you can fix it.

I'm totally against noise suppressors as they just cover up a problem or mistake with the installation.

What brand head unit? Certain models can be damaged if RCA's are plugged in or unplugged while it is turned on and it will cause the exact problem you're describing.
