    Unhappy Head unit problems :(

    Ok so hear my problem…
    I have a pioneer deh-p1y head unit.
It has a security feature on it. When ever you turn the car off, the face plate drops down so you don’t forget to take it out.

Any way I was having a few problems with it. Every now and then, when ever I turned my car off the face plate wouldn’t drop down. It only happened every now and then. But it started to piss me off. And the screen stated to play up.

So I contacted the guy I got it from. (Purchased it on EBay) and he told me to send it to him because he needs to send it to china because the warranty was only valid in china. So he checked it out and there wasn’t a problem in his car. And suggested it was just a wiring problem. So he sent it back.
About an hour ago I and my mate tried to install it. Now it won’t turn on. My mate is an electrician and has installed many head units including my head unit when I first purchased it. So that’s not the problem

Now the thing is when I removed the head unit about 2 weeks ago one of the wires touched the shassy and sparked up and I blew a fuse. Was an easy fixed just swapped it around for a new one?

Does any one know if this is a problem with the head unit or something in the car? We checked all the fuses and they are fine. So me and my mate are totally stumped.... I drive a holden vp if that means any thing.

Any one know what is wrong?
    Any help would be great
    thanks guys
    Nick

It could be a few things... The ribbon cable from the head unit to the screen can break and work intermittently. The amp IC in the head unit could have been damaged when you touched the wire to the chassis. Or you may have blown the radio fuse in the car's fuse box.

It's most likely the ribbon though. It can work sometimes and not other times. You can sort of test it by taking the lid off, plug it in to it's loom, roll the gears on the side which control the face. Rolling one way will open the face EVENTUALLY, if the ribbon is faulty the face should close by itself while you're trying to roll it down.

Pioneer probably have authorized service centres but you might be without it as long as sending it to China...

Pioneer service centre should take under a week to fix it, and will probably know what the fault is so labour may not even reach an hour depending on the fault.
