hey i just bought a new sound stream amp and i have installed it and it works great but for some reason it keeps cutting out i have checked all the wiring and it seams ok, and the light and the amp goes red and it says protection? wat does this mean? any help would be great.
thanks,nick

Make sure you have a good secure earth(ie: no paint just a metal on metal contact) to the amp.
Next what gauge power wire are you runnning from the battery?
Check the speakers for any shorts to earth...
What model of amp is it....?
You may have the gains to high, does the amp get hot then shut down?
Let me know if this helps or if you need anymore help......cheers

Some more info would help. Which soudstream amp? What are you driving off it? Where/how is it mounted?
Usually an amp will go into protection for one of the following resons:
Overheating. Either from inadequate cooling or overloading.
Overloading. Trying to drive a load with too low impedance. Short on the output.
Insufficient supply voltage can cause the amp to go into protection as well. Are the power cables/grounds up to the task?
Impedence oppositon to current flow in a A.C Circuit, in D.C you have resistance, tho impedence as there is a capactitive and inductive load.Originally Posted by phree
I agree on the overload, circuit protection in this case the fusable link is required to operate trip on overloads, interupt supply voltage b4 peak, carry rated current, provide descrimination so i dont think its nothing major there.
I recommend do checking the earthing bond.Voltage @ fluctuating (Electrical Pressure) can cause alot of issues to protective devices, loads, wiring systems as inference to car audio is one example of a non stable voltage interference expecially seen in speakers along with R.F.I (Radio Frequency Interference). Voltage High - Current Low (VOLATAGE PROPORTIONAL TO CURRENT)

ok so the amp is a sound stream lil wonder and its mounted to the back of my subbox i have checked my leads i guess it could be my earth but it seams ok.. im trying 2 power 2 12inch subs maybe i have the settings up 2 high
Yes the gain could be too high.
Also:
What type are the subs? Specifically what is their impedance, i.e. what ohms?
Exactly what model is the amp?
What i'm getting at is, if they are for instance 4 ohm SVC (single voice coil) and you have them connected in parallel, they are presenting a 2 ohm load to the amp. If the amp is a multi channel then it probably can not handle a 2ohm load bridged. Thus the amp goes into protection.
The more info you provide the easier it is to help.
less resistance more I will flow.meaning higher SPL and voltage to each speakers.
