Default Good sound in old wagons

What is the best set up for good sound in a VN - VS wagon. In a sedan the placement for speakers is pretty straight forward. Yet, placement for the best sound quality is not so easy. Is the factory positioning the way to go? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the doors and subs pretty much anywhere in the tailgate. I'm not a fan of rear speakers though, i'd stick with really GOOD front speakers and subs.
