Hi all,
I have just installed 6x9's with a amp. Im not a big stereo buff, my friend gave me an amp and i installed my speakers with it.
So i wired everything up and got it all working, however the 6x9's sound horrible, they are sony xplode 220w.
I have my 6" running off my head unit, when i have my music on their is hardly any noise comming out of them and no bass at all from the front or rears, so i thought that i might have the gain up too high, i turned it half way and still sound shocking, so i turned it to Min, now harly any noise from the rear and all sound from front.
I changed fading to rears and i had the volume on 24 and couldent hear harly anything, then tried left and right and the same outcome.
I had my 6x9's in my old car running off the headunit and could get decent sound and bass out of them.
Could i have the speaker wired around the wrong way or could the rears just be knackerd and should iinvest in new ones?
Any help would be great.
sounds like you have the 6x9s wired up to opposite polarities
opposite polarities......so i have the wired around the wrong way?
eg: speaker no1: + with + and - with -
speaker no2: + with - and - with +.
comprendae?

What sort of stereo are you using?
What did it sound like before you put the amp and the rear sonys in?
Heres some ideas to try -
1. Try balancing to one side, does the speaker sound better? If it does then you are 'out of phase left to right' meaning you have it wired back to front.
2. Fade from front to rear. If when u fade to the front and the fronts sound better, then when you fade to the rear and the rears sound better. Chances are you are 'out of phase front to rear'. meaning as the fronts produce the bass the rears are taking it away or vice versa.
To change this you need to make sure all the positive wires from the amp are going to the positive on the speakers and the negative from the amp to the negative on the speakers.
3. Check to make sure you havent screwed the speakers in to tight or the hole which the speaker is sitting in at the moment may not be the right size and by forcing the speaker to screw in can damage and sometimes warp the metal basket of the speaker thereby making the speaker sound 'muddy' or 'scratchy'....
4. Also make sure you dont have the crossover on your amp set to LPF if you do then your 6x9's will sound like bass speakers only....The crossover is that switch on the amp that has(depending on the amp) HPF, FULL, LPF. You need to have this switch on FULL.
Let us know if any of this helps....cheers
Lets work as a TEAM and do it MY WAY!!![]()
