I have a rockford P2 sub and 300W rockford amp that i am never goin to put into my car but i was wondering if i would be able to use it say .... on a stereo or sumthing like that.
i have a 5.1 surround setup on my TV for my PS2/Xbox. on the back of the sub it has 6 RCA like plugs for the speakers n Sub. Is there a way of gettin my positive and negative wires from my rockford and adapting it to an rca style plug and then plugging that in? would that work?
just looking at the plug it doesnt have 2 wires in it its just 1 wire
yea, u can use an older power supply froom a computer to do it
oh for real? thats good coz i got a few here
didnt think a PSU would have the juice for making an amp drive a sub :S
but runnign a 12" sub for hometheatre would be cool, get some of that really deep boom going on
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
You would just wire it up the same, RCA from source unit to amp, then get power from a 12v supply, then run speaker wires from amp to sub.
The problems you might have though are that a PC power supply will only supply a few amp of current, a high powered amp will draw that easily (look at fuses in amp to see upper limit of what it could draw). Drawing too much current from PSU will most likely end in a toasted PSU, but it's worth a try if you have a spare.
I have an old 15" sub in my home theatre, I bought a Jaycar 240v plate amp to run it though.
[edit] Regarding the single subwoofer plug from your source, subbass is non-directional, so it can be reduced to mono (single channel) which is what the source unit has done. You can plug just one lead into your amp, or you can buy a "Y" splitter and plug two plug in.
ok sik i'll have a play later in the week![]()

PSU to power the amp?
*sniff sniff* Cananyone smell insulation melting?
Honestly it's not worth the time to use the amplifier. YOu would be better off finding another old stereo amplifier at a junk shop and buying a $15 crossover from jaycar and just using that. The sub will work fine but the amp will have issues.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
wont the stereo amp be suited to much higher impedances, like 8ohms?? that you wont be able to produce to the amp?
