gentlemen,
just wondering how i should wire in a dual voice coil sub into a 2 channel amp,
should i wire both the coils from the bridge in the amp, or should i wire each coil as a seperate channel? or is it much the same?
thanks for the help!
It depends on the amp and depends on what impedence (ohm) the voice coils are.
Generally, if they are 2 ohm voice coils you can wire them in series to the amp bridged. If they are 4 ohm coils, then you'd need to wire each coil to each channel.
is that ok to wire each coil to each channel? caus what if a song or sound fades from the left channel to the right channel and vice versa?
As far as I know, sub bass isn't recorded in stereo. But if you're worried, you can wire the 4 ohm coils in series and connect them bridged to the amp. It works out giving the same power as if the separate channels were used.
Also, if they are 4 ohm voice coils and your amp is 2 ohm stable, you can run each voice coil in parallel to the amp bridged. This will give you max power, providing your amp and sub can handle it...Originally Posted by StoneX
There aren't many 2 channel amps that are 2 ohm stable bridged, that's why I said it depends on the amp.
B-T-GiZzLe... What amp are you talking about?
it is a Cadence Z8000 2 channel amp, and a MTX Thunder 8500 sub...
both are rated @ 500 watts RMS
That amp will only do 500Wrms at 4 ohm when bridged and the sub is dual 4 ohm, so they don't suit each other at all.
You can only hook the sub up with the coils in series with the amp bridged OR each channel to each coil and the amp will be giving it 350Wrms (2 x 175) or so.
