    Default Need Help with Install

Hey, I know this is a commodore forum but Iv been looking everywhere on the web for instructions and stuff but cant find a great deal.

Soon I am gettin asked to help install a HU and speakers into a friends sisters 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer GLI. Has anyone done this before?

I need to know which areas have to come out to be able to access the HU and what has to be done to get to front door speakers and what size are they? And does the HU brackets have to be modified or will it go straight in?

Any help would be appreciated thankyou...

Dare I say have you tried googling for a Mitsubishi forum? if there is one out there that is atleast as well laden with information as ours then surely that would have a guide?

Another thought would be stop by your local libary and see if they have a gregorys manual or similar?

All these suggestions are from a 98 Lancer I am pretty sure they didnt change much from 98 to 99.

    1. The headunit in a lancer is a clarion normally from stock. So wiring is as easy as matching the colours.

    2. To remove the headunit just remove the ashtray and gently pull on the dash, the whole front around the radio will come off. The factory radio is cradle(metal cage that holds the radio) mounted so just do the same thing when installing the new one.

    3. The stock size of the front speakers are 4", or you can put 6" in the doors with some modification. You will need to remove the door trim however to gain access to the speakers.

    4. As for the rear speakers the stock size is 6", or once again with modification you can place 6x9's in the shelf. However not all the lancers came out with speakers in the rear. To gain access to the rear speakers you will need to remove the top of the parcel shelf as the speakers are screwed in from the top.

Just a little note if there are speakers in the rear and u do want to go with 6x9's then you will be left with a rather unsightly gap from the stock speaker grilles.

If you need anymore help just ask.....cheers

what needs to be done to modify the front doors to fit 6" or 6.5" (if possibe) speakers, and what has to be done to the parcel shelf to fit 6x9's? I take it you have to jigsaw the parcel shelf, but i havnt got a jigsaw so will it be ok to just dodgy it by using spacers?

    Thanks heaps for this.

You'll need to make MDF spacers for the front doors to fit 6" or 6.5". Not sure about parcel shelf, but down cut any metal, as it'll make the car unroadworthy.

Yeah, but you might have to make custom ones to fit the shape of the door. Take one of the trims off and check before buying premade ones.
