im lookin at 8 inch subs... i know the cons with havin a smaller diametre
what im lookin for is a quality unit... anyone runnin one or installed one of late? cheers in advance
maybe DD 1008s??
may as well use full range 6x9s
Can't really think of any 8s that have impressed me lately.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
hrm 6x9....... err get meself nother set of JL splits
like not overly dissin 6x9's but yeah im already gettin tidy mids n highs from speakers i already got... just needin somethin to cover lower ranges of sound to compliment what i already got
i used to run those kenwood 7 inch subs in my doors in the ute......broke a window with them tho but if they were behind the seats they would of gone ok.....
I was looking at running two 8" subs in the rear parcel shelf rather than a single 10" or 12" in the boot however I couldn't find much of a range of 8" subs.
the only 8 inch subs ive seen are brands like rockford fosgate, kenwood, kicker, jl audio, dls and i think jaycar
Pioneer have a shallow mount 8" aswell now. I'd really recommend a 10" or 12" in the boot though. You can make it so that it takes up very little space... Like a fibreglass box moulded into a corner or shallow box mounted up under the parcel shelf, etc.
yeah i was steering twards an enclosure made of mdf behind the seats - havent got patience for fiberglass, plus mdf is easy to get, me mates ol man's a cabnet maker![]()
well
i can say for a fact that they do make a 8 in type X alpine sub
but of how much it will cost i doubt you would wanna get two of them
my friend has a set of 4 inch type x splits
$400 for them
kinda scary
i mean if they can make speakers that small sound that good then like the other brands have a lot of catching up to do.
maybe its cost of materials to make the speaker is just too great
mate you just need to listen to some more serious brands, and then you will realise that type X aren't all that they are cracked up to be.![]()
id opt for a 10inch sub mate, gunna be plenty punchy enuff and louder than an 8inch sub![]()
yeah if i was opting for space saving i'd still go for a 10" simply because of the wider range of options that open up to you when you step up to this size. It won't necessarily need an enclosure that's going to take up much room in your boot. Plenty of 10"s are suited to 0.5 cu. ft. enclosures or even smaller maybe.
Would it still be better to run one 10" sub than to run two 8" subs?Originally Posted by BigDaz
well 2 8 inch subs have more cone area so they would be louder on thqat but a 10 inch will probably have longre throw.... depends really.
well personally i wouldnt run either, my next setup will be 2 10's.
seems to me like if ur considering 8in subs then ur system aint gunna be very loud anyway so 1 10in will be more than enuff. PLus 1 sub is prolly gunna be better to wire up than 2 subs. could use a smaller amp ...... not like 2 8in's will need much power but![]()
whatever you choose look at your sub wiring options and make sure you can match the impedences to an amp that can a)remain stable at chosen impedence and b)provide sufficient power at whatever impedence that may be. Also factor costs of cabling/terminals etc into budget if you have a set one.
mate power rating and "loudness" means stuff all. cold carve knows his shit with audio, and hence there will be a specific reason for 8in over 10in.Originally Posted by BigDaz
how much space have you got ?
and how much money
like
12 in subs are best value for money of all subs
if you shove one in a smaller box that reccomended it will pretty much kill its throw distance as well which will make it perform better but wont be as loud.
u misunderstood me garfa, ease up i was just tryin to help.![]()
got onto a pair of 8's off ebay... not bigest in power handling - 150w each, bein a ute dont really need to go tooo big havin smaller space, but as long as it can complement rather than drown out the music with all bass ill be happy... lookin into ways of making a bandpass enclosure but ill see what i can do when i get me seats out n have a look at how much space ill need, everything else is ready to go, got the amp sittin in its box atm ready to install, thanks to all of ya for ya intrests and replys. let ya know how it goes!
Why would you even consider a bandpass box? Do you have all the T/S specs for the subs? Without those there is NO WAY to build a good sounding bandpass box.
i didn;t know they were MENT to sound good!Originally Posted by StoneX

Haha... They're not really, but the tuning frequencies are very important. You might end up with tuning of 45 and 48Hz and have a massive peak in the response and nothing elsewhere over the frequency range.
yeah ive got a pdf on the TS parametres, i know with the bandpass it focus' more on a smaller range of bass, but yeah all the same im jus toyin with ideas atm.
