Hey all i just bought a Pioneer AVH-P6850DVD In Dash Touch Screen Double Din Head Unit with 6 disc dvd stacker blah blah... link here - http://www.pioneer.com.au/productdet...al/AVHP6850DVD
Anyway, i went to one car audio shop and they were saying with the VT all the front dash comes off, heatcontrols side oanels the lot and a cusomt mbracket made to house double din HUs (not really referreing to the above, more the new JVC one i was gonna get too)
anyhoo, is this true? im sure the pioneer ones come with a cradle i can just pop in the double din hole? and rivet from the sides as i do now with 1 din units
Any assistance as ive seen 1 of 2 vts on here with double din units..
thanks
VT's have a double din unit stock. Should just be able to slot the pioneer cradle in there. (some adjustment of stock cradel needed. Use hammer.)
As far as I know......
damn that was quick, but as i thought yes!
As I said, might just need some brute force and ignorance to get it in there.
Good luck
or a dremel with an extender cable [ tip extender ]
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
nah dremals are annoying, the tips get ground down too quick. cordless angle grinder for me!
ok but for his other question does the dash need to come out like the heater controls and all? im looking at putting a new head unit in my vt
same here
i gues ill find out soon enoguh
no one here seems to have any pics of when they actually done it
like how much of te dash has to be removed n stuf like that
yes it all does
No, not in a vtOriginally Posted by buzurk
Use the coat hanger trick to remove the headunit
install double din cradle inside stock cradle.
beat the (something) out of it with a hammer to get it flat again.
pop rivet the cage in and grind off the heads

As for the hammer trick....I wouldnt recommend it....the last 3 cars that i have seen have all come back because some of the heater illumination lights have been blown (caused by the excess vibration from the hammer hitting the inside of the factory deck opening).
I have never needed to use a hammer yet on any vt's or vx's to get the cradle in.....I just gently squeeze the cradle until it fits in the opening then once its in place then push it back into shape.....
Much easier and less time consuming.....for everybody....
Hope this helps........cheers
Lets work as a TEAM and do it MY WAY!!
When I installed my single din pioneer stereo the mounting bracket was too wide for the din slot, had to bend the bracket to fit it in, and obviously the stereo wouldn't fit after that, so I had to drill in from the side, removing the entire dash to mount it... On the plus side no one will ever be able to steal my stereo.
I get the feeling you will get the same woes with a double DIN and will defintitely have to drill from the side, opposed to creating some smaller brackets.
So how did you go installing the double unit? Only ask as I am looking at doing the same thing?
Mick
i am putting the same Pioneer double DIN as you in my clubbyr8 and a mate who has a stereo shop is doing my whole car.
he said that yes the dash just about has to be stripped. the front and expecially the side panels so that they can secure the double din cradle...
he is a mate so i know he isnt b*llsh*tting
hopefully doing it in the next couple of weeks and will have some pics.
you'll have to fabricate something to house and mount the new unit. it's a bit smaller than the original unit too.
Yup i no all about beatn it with a hammer i need to replace some bulbs from the harsh beating i wouldnt recomand it, i didnt no at the time tho.Originally Posted by VQXTC
oh one thing i did use was the cradle, once i got it in there it didnt seem to wonna move so i didnt bother. but next time i pull it out which wont be for awhile im gunna get it done properly so i no its in good even no i no it wont move now...
So stick your jack in there and crank her up. Easy and no vibration.Originally Posted by VT-Berlina
Pioneers dont come with double DIN cradles
The dash does need to be completely stripped to fit it properly
Its a 2 hour job for someone who does it professionally.
It will never be stolen if fitted properly as it is bolted in securely.
Not something I would recomend letting your mate do at home in the driveway !!

thats why my mate is doing it who owns his own car stereo shop do it....
does heaps of them so wont be a problem for him....just gotta get enough money to do the whole lot in the one go....not a fan of pulling apart my dash and stuff heaps...the more you pull on and off the clips weaken and it just never is the same....gaps start apearing between pieces,etc...
do it once and do it properly![]()
