    Default advice on new purchase

    hey any help would be appreciated.
    i just purchased -

    1 x Soundstream Tarantula 15" sub 1000w RMS
    2 x Soundstream Tarantula 10" subs 800w RMS
    1 x Jaycar Response 1500w RMS Class D Amplifier
    1 x Jaycar Response Car Amp 4x100w RMS or 380WRMS x 2

    just wanted to know how much power thats goin to draw from my battery and whether i need to install extra batteries, capacitors, any suggestions?

    this is goin in the back of a vt wagon does anyone have any suggestions/designs on how to install all this gear ?

    ok what gauge power are you running?
    no cap will be needed if you updrade these ground cables with the same size power cable you are using:
    neg terminal to chassis
    neg terminal to engine block
    engine block to fire wall ground strap
    now as for the current draw thats easy. what are the fuses on each amp? 80a on the 4x100Wrms and then 160a on the 1500W amp. so thats a total of 240 amps.
    or you can figure it out this way (more accurate): power=voltsXamps.
    1500Watts=14voltsXamps
    therefore amps=1500/14
    amps=107
    the amplifier is 88% efficent.
    so, current drain=(107/88)X100=122amps.

    now the 4x100 doesnt have an efficency rating so because its a class ab take it to be 60%
    again applying p=vi,
    i=760/14
    i=(54A/60)x100
    so, current drain=91amps
    so therefore a main fuse of around 220amps will be fine, but 220 amps isn't readily avalibal so go for the 250amp.
    now remember that all these power values are taken at 4.4volts where as you will have around 14.1-14.2 volts at the amp so it will be a bit out but there are also a heap of other things so it will do.
    idealy i would consider 0ga to the distro block and then 2ga to the 1500Wamp and 4ga to the 4x100 (the 4x100 can take up to 4ga wire where as the 1500 have bigger power terminals.)
    remember to fuse the 4ga and 2ga wire differently. you dont want the 4ga fused at 160amps and then finding out that the jacket melted and caused a fire becaus the cable was rated to only 120amps. so a 150amps fuse for the 1500w and a 100amp fuse for the 4x100.
    mow what impediances are the subs? dual voice coil or single? i am assuming you want to run these off the 1500Wamp and not the 4x100. correct?
    damn that was a long post!!!
