    Default sudden volume drop

    hey all,
doing some asking of the questions instead of answering!
i have a couple of jaycar carbon 12 inch woofers wired to 1 ohm connected to the jaycar 400W mono block. this is run from a 2ga main cable to a distro block which splits it to 4ga.
now, when i wind up the volume (past a comfortable level) the bass drops out conpletely.
so what could the problem be? its not exactly important because i never really listen at this volume, just interested as to why this may be happening.
    cheers, garth.

also while i am at it does anyone know where i can get good quality right angle rca plugs? the best i can find is futurlec

automatic cut off in the amp so you dont blow the sub, my mates amp did it at a "loud enough" volume, would drop out now and then on a heavy bass note.

my sub did the same thing... a way around it (sort of) was i would listen to it at max volume before drop out then after a few days bump the volume up 1 notch.... a few weeks later my max volume was 3 or 4 higher. dunno if its just wearing in the sub that little bit more or whatever but it worked for me

Your running at 1ohm. You HAVE to epect troubles when you run at 1ohm.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

    Maybe it's even your deck?

My stock VY deck (modified by Phreddy) does it as a protection thing (although you can disable this feature).

As for the right-angle RCA plugs, I got some good ones from Jaycar a couple of months back...

nah its not the deck and its not because the amp is being driven to clipping.
its not a problem as such just an observation.

12volt: why should i expect problems with running at 1 ohm? just because the amp is being driven to nearer it limits?
also have you had much experience over driving the jaycar woofers? are they rated very close to their "real" power handling?

Garfa, they are generally rated higher then what they they advertise but not by much (25wrms give or take)

Think about it mate. If you are ddriving the amp close to clipping then you are also driving it close to it's limits. When you work on your limits...you don't work perfectly.

I would have thought that the amp is hitting protection mode and shutting off... Hence sudden drop...
Change the wiring so you are only running 1 or 2 subs, in either 2 or 4 ohm setup, and see if it will wind up higher.
If it will, then the issue is that you are hitting protection mode on the amp.
