Sub-box design (no this hasn't been posted)

I recently bought a pioneer 760 watt amp and twin 12" 750 watt kenwood subs for my vr. After seeing some pics I have decided a custom boot install is the only way to go. I know about the sort of volume you need for the sub boxes but was just wondering if the shape of them made a difference to the sound quality. In the boot of the VR's you have the flat part which then moves up onto a shelf close to the rear seats and I was thinking of fitting the sub box around that. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Hey I have a vp and my boot is the sme as your vr and can be a pain to work with but i have managed. I am half way through doing my boot and i am very happy so far. I will post some pics soon if you would like. I have put my subs in the one box but facing towards eachother on an angle, I love the look. I then just cut some timber to size to hold it up staight over the lip and bolted it to the box and car(watch out for the petrol tank and any lines). I have then used a false floor to mount my amps and am going to put another floor on top of that to cover them and bring up the boot floor level with the sub box. I have much more to do after that but will eventually post pictures or everything.

From my experience there are a few factors to take into consideration.

1. is how much volume the subs need to work eg. 1 cu foot etc which ultimately depends on the size of the box.

2. standing waves inside the box that you build (negates the purpose)

3. Whether you want sealed or vented

4. type of material
and so on

I am afraid that it is not as simple as slapping a box together and hoping to get the best bass from it. It may seem that way when you read mags and see pics. And I'm not saying that I am an expert - far from it.
I have built many boxes in my time for different cars and have made plenty of mistakes and some good to great ones. (lucky the price of MDF is low)

Get a program called bassbox pro 6 heaps of designs can be fit around ur requiremrnt and the box is tuned to ur sub so u get the mmost out of it, pm me if ur interested.

if your box is the proper size, the shape of it shouldnt matter too much. A square box may contribute more to standing waves, but you can work around it eg with foam to deaden the back of your box
