Avoiding Spacers

I have a series 1 VS acclaim and i have bought 6x9's. I have been told by various places that i would need to put spacers in as its a defect to cut into the metal. I was just wondering if there is a way around this like positioning the speakers a different way. I did a search and didnt find much that helped so any input would be greatly appriciated.

you could try getting some fibreglass speaker pods, but they are a bit costly? they still act like spacers, but positioned correctly the speaker will be tilted forward and have a nice custom look and better sound direction..

hmmm that doesnt sound to bad, how much are we talking though. and i forgot to add im going to have to pay to have it all installed.

hmm ive seen them at jbhifi for about $140 a pair. but im still not certain they will allow the speaker to fit through the existing hole? im pretty sure they would, the magnet would just go the the hole. and it would be fairly easy to fit as well

im still not sure i think i might just take it up to soundmaster and have them install it all. The guy quoted around $200 but atleast then i have a warranty and good peace of mind that it has been done properly.
!Question! which spacers are better the plastic or wooden ones, a guy at work told me to stick with wooden ones as they sound better.

wooden ones would absorb sound, but i really dont think it would make much different, esp with all the road noise and such going on..

Go buy a small sheet of 10-15mm MDF n cut ur own spacers out....If ur good with wood ive seen sick spacers that ppl have made and it had the edges routed then painted up in two tone....uve just gotat be creative....all the square spacers are shit they just break after u pull ur speakers out a couple times....Home Job spacers look sick as u will never see another set the same unlesss they copy ya....Those pods are very expensive but do look good....

yeah i made mdf spacers for girlfriends car, they looked kinda good...give me some more practice with a jigsaw

can you guys possibly take a picture of what your home made ones look like, i realise it will be pretty hard as they are in the car's by now but any photo's would be greatly appriciated.

soundmaster do a good job but u should also try southside car audio at menai thats where i get my stereo stuff and the guy is rly professional
