Being charged not much more than that to install front and parcel shelf speakers, plus a total rewire. Deck is already in though.
I'd be shopping around..

dude lifetime warranty, u can be interatate and still have it fixed, and if u sell ur car they will remove it for you for free. so u can put in your new one.
and there installers are good. for my money i would do it

look at the pros and cons strathies offer the best around plus whats 20 bucks if ur getting a life time warranty
is it lifetime warranty on the install? Sure, some places can be worth $100 for a HU install, but one from strathfield wouldnt be one of those places. But if they're gonna lifetime warranty their work, it would be worth it, just read teh fine print
Last week I would have said it was expensive.
Well this week it's cheap. I offered to install my Sister in Laws stereo for free but her husband went and paid $420.00 for the install of the HU and two rear six inch speakers ($60.00 purchase price of the speakers was included in that price).
I rewired it the next day as the constant an acc lines were joined to an ignition wire, no earth connected other than through the HU casing sitting in it's frame which sometimes earthed and the rear speakers were wired opposite to each other.
I have been quoted between $60.00 and $150.00 for just an HU install so I guess I will always install my own.
Of note these relatives also spent $1499 on a computer I told them I could get but with a 17" LCD rather than a CRT for $700 complete with software.
Never
$50.00 paid for each answer to a post of mine.
Please note cheques will not be honoured
even with a lifetime warranty thats still expensive... its not hard to do it right yourself and they take it out for free? your telling me you cant pull on a HU and either unplug a loom or cut some wires? do it yourself you'll learn some neat stuff when you do it too
Achin' for a v8 wagon people click me!
Yeah, I can't believe people actually pay to get car stereos installed!
I've heard some horror stories about some of the installs. Basically, they're dodgy, you could do a much better job yourself.
...And there's no way I'd trust my car with some 18 year old novice with NFI !
straithfields charge 88 bux generally to install a head unit
the reason your beeing charged 100 is it will include the pocket for under your radio
last person says he hears horror stories well as an installer i see a hell of a lot more horrors form so called mates who think they know what they doing
i have seen airbags go off, panels cracked, looms not taped and that costs alot more than 100 bux to fix
yes there are a few places around with bad installers like any industry
but 90% are fine
sometimes the cheeper guys do they dogdy stuff and also when ya get ya car back it ends up more cause they added wires, terminals.pockets without tell you and it ends up over the guy down the streets higher prices
yes shop around but word of mouth awill always win
were do you live, soundmaster at hurstville(NSW) install HU for around $70 and they give you a lifetime warrenty.
im in little ol adelaide
some places around do it for 70 bux also
and straths will price match if ya ask
sometimes
Yeah, I spose it's like anything really. Dodgy installers can produce horror jobs and backyard boys with NFI can do the same.Originally Posted by daron.
I've never had any of the above things happen to me and I've installed at least a dozen stereos. If you have any idea about this sort of thing, then do it yourself, otherwise take it to someone and hope for the best!![]()
Stathfield are generally alright from my experience. As for $100 to install, never go on your first quote, get at least 5.One place I don't recommend is Car Audio Exelence, you want rip off's..then that's where to go.
Ripoff??? I think not. You asked how much to install it and they quoted you a price. If you think it's too dear go and get a quote elsewhere or do it yourself. Just remember - getting things done "cheap" is not always the best solution!Originally Posted by lpassociation

Not that I would ever bother myself, why wouldn't people pay to get it installed.? Not all stereo installers are dodgy - actually the vast majority of professionals aren't.Originally Posted by davey g-force
IMHO a professional installer would do a heap better job than somebody who has nfi. It wasn't a stereo, but I did get my mobile phone hands free kit installed professionally even though I am far more mechanical than most. Reasons - he does it every day, has all the right tools, knows where all the screws and clips etc are and did it in about 1/3 the time it would have taken me. The job is very neat and works great.
If you had any doubts as to their abilities, just ask to see a couple of examples of their work preferably in a similar model car to yours.

how many point was the immob? how much did it cost?Originally Posted by wes_v8
you dont really need to get the hu professionally installed, but if you are a millionare you could just give someone $100 to fit ya wireless while you sit there and drink beer or something.
I dont know much about comodores myself, my wife has a vp calais wich still has the original hu (these are the same as some mercedes benz), I have added a dvd player in the pocket under the hu, mistake I made was that the disc touches the shift knob when its in park.
I never really have much to do with modern cars, I like my 50's cars but a guy I was working with once asked me to fit a dvd player to his 2002 prelude.
I told him I would if he shouted lunch at maccas wich wasnt a bad deal becuase I basically just took out a pocket and srewed in the dvd unit using the screws and mounts for the pocket with no cutting or drilling, I soldered up the power wires and while doing it he noticed I use heat shrink tube and asked if I could re join the wires from his recent STRATHFEILD instaled poineer hu, a deal was made with the meal now being large and a sundae added.
You could probably buy a adapter from supercheap to just use the factory harness and buy a single din hu to keep it all basic and easy without cutting any of the factory harness.
A friend of mine had a immobilser installed in his fe ute with central locking, they ran the wires from the edge of the door trim and into the kick panel when there were two safe ways to run the wire invisble, they also charged him for their crappy ideas and work, I fitted central locking to my FC, it cost $25 for four doors, I then found a remote immobiliser at k mart on clearance for $44,and wired it to the central locking wich gave me a imobilser for $69, I had fitted some power window motors I found in blubird doors out the front of the scrap metal yard, there was a spare output on the immobilser remote for a boot release so I wired it to the drivers window so when you hold the two buttons down the window goes up. I then added a cruise control kit witch was on specail at auto 1 and come with a dummys guide installation video, point is you can do heaps more with little money and have it all how you want it if you do it yourself and you dont have to be a mechanic, trimmer or auto electrician, I am a car washer.

i am not trying to be negitive or anything, but i think that i could disable a all black 3 point immob. it would take 10-15mins 1st time but really that immob is not too hard to get past.
the kmart 1 has nice thick wires for the starter right? oooo! goody lets joint them and look for anyother thick wires and fix ity all back up and bob's your uncle!
really, the alarm/immob is only as good as the install. if it was easy to fit, its easier to remove.
i got a really good bloke to install my alarm as a favour between mates with some slcoholic persuasion, and i can say that the effort that he went to was great, he really took his time making it as hard as possible with what was avalibal for the car to be stolen. and then i asked him how long for him to break in and start the car with the alarm/immob installed. less than 5 minutes!
so really an alrm will only stop a ameteur crook not anything experienced.
