I've got a head unit, and 6x9's of sony explod. The H/U i've had for nearly 2 years now, and I've haven't had one problem with it at all. Actually, it's been awesome!

The 6x9's I haven't really had long enough, or used long enough to take notice of the quality, but they seem pretty good.

Dont buy Sony gear... You dont have to get something top of the range, but just get pioneer speakers or something like that, not Sony crap.

It's stupid to buy all one brand unless you're doing a show car or are sponsored. Sony Xplod head units are OK, some people say the amps are better than Kenwood and Pioneer equivalents, but who really knows for sure. I'd definitely keep away from their speakers and subs though.

Do some THOROUGH research before purchasing anything.

this is exactly why i asked this question lol. everyone always gives me different answers on it all. so i think im going to go with instinct and sell the head unit to a mate. and buy all pioneer. i think it is just one of them disorders i have, to have the same brand, doesnt feel right otherwise.
    Thanks Guys.

The best piece of advice anyone could give you about any brand of car audio gear is listen to it before you buy it. Hunt around until you have someone who has the gear already and listen to it with your own ears.

What sounds good to one person might sound like crap to someone else. It's your car, it's your ears, and it's your money. Get something that you're going to be happy looking at.

All anyone can tell you is their opinion of it, they can't tell you what you'll think of it. I, for one, am not a fan of the sound of the Sony gear, but I have mates who swear by it.

Ok, now for starters i was always a Pioneer man. there equipment more than perfect for the money and sound quality is fantasitc. Im a big "car stereo" guy for years now. i luv big subs too. I've also had kenwood, clarion, jvc and Alpine. I personly hate kenwood, to me it sounds cheap, weak and tinny! clarion and jvc put out very good sound on a buget . Alpine is mindblowing if u can afford it. same goes fo rockford fosgate and JL audio.

Now in regards to ur SONY question. Sony have been around for a long long time. they r a JAPANESE compony . They also make top notch home cinema audio gear and were responsable for the gift of the playstaion 1,2 and soon to be 3. My cousins a DJ and has sum old sony floorstanders with 20" woofers in them from like the 80"s or sumthing and they still sound awesome even today in 2006!!

I now have an Xplode headunit in my Calais. its only got stock speakers till weekend but it still sounds great. I will be geting matching Xplode speakers front and rear for sure seeing as sony desgined them too match the headunits EQ3 and DSO outputs!!!
I have no doubts when it come to sony gear....

    my 2 cents...

Go ask an installer... Or pro with no interest in making money from you. They will tell you how Sony products rate compared to other brands.

I work with someone who has repaired Sony products in the past and he wouldn't buy Sony car audio now.

thats is true, If you want proof that sony is crap, about 2 years ago sony have 6X9's 3 ways that had a triangle shaped 2 way piece. A year later Sound4 had the very same speakers.
i'll google around and try to find pics of both speakers.

i agree, im sick to death of pioneer. I luv em but its time to move on. As to the sony's not being built in japan.....doesnt matter. Why? coz its designed in Japan and built to japanse QA standerds. Thats bout as good as it gets these days. These days Most top end manufactuers are contracting there products to 3rd world nations whose labour cost nothing compered to ours or say japan its self. i have bougt many high quality products desined from germany or japan only to get them home turn em ova , as see a big fat ugly "MADE IN TAIWAN" label. Unless your prepared to fork ova massive quantites for Elite top end stuff. But as i recall even ALPINE waz "doing it" way bak in 1999 when i bought a PHILLIPS 4x channel amp. only to be told 3 monthes later by a indusry pro that they were desined and built in the ALPINE factory in JAPAN. PHILLIPS simply put there labels on them and sold them through JB HI-FI at cheaper prices! . I still have that amp TODAY! After 8 1/2 years flat out powering Twin (2x) JL auido 650watt (1300watt total) 10" subs (boxed). not bad for $180 at the time.

i personally know nothing about sony decks and amps, but 1 of my mates has his car decked out with sony and one has clarion and to be honest unless u start pumpin it loud i cant notice the diff and neither can any body else but as soon as you go over a certain amount the clarion kills it. but by what i have been told the sony head units and amps are pretty good for the money but the part people bag sony about is the cheap quality speakers and how they break, i personally like pioneer and mtx but like people have said, listen to it and if you like it then get into your pockets and spend....... good luck with it and hope it works out for ya

for christs sake just because you think sony sounds good doesn't mean it is!

Listen and see is the only way... everyone will give you a different opinion of a certain brand. All you can do is go with what you like and be influenced by people's personal experiences with reliability.

MY experience is this... I have a middle of the range sony xplod mp3 head unit and have had it for 3 years now with no problems at all. it is a little on the simple side compared to similar priced models (i.e. no fancy graphics, OLED displays or motorised doohickeys) but it suits me perfectly for easy of use, sounds excellent to my ears, and looks good in the car. That is my opinion
