metal and trance are two fairly opposing styles of music, so whats best for trance wont be quite as good for metal. IMO the difference wont be that huge, just take a CD with trance and metal on it to a shop and listen to speakers

How much do you want to spend? Why no sub? A sub isn't just for "doof", it actually helps reproduce the full frequency range of the music. Rock music, hard rock, metal all sound so much different (better) with a sub.

agreed. i always thought subs were only for big bass songs, but i have a set of 2 12" clarion 300watt rms subs and i listen to pop, punk, techno, metal, hardcore, rnb, ect. and if you dont have subs you are missing out on most of the low range sounds in any style of music.

i have to say that metallica sounds alot better with subs too.

yeah I've heard alot of people saying that they listen to rock/metal so they dont need a sub. I couldnt listen to music in my car without a sub. (or home stereo for that matter).
