Hey, I was wondering if a system (6"'s, 6x9"'s, 5 channel 3600W amp) would sound fine without a sub. I don't listen to rap, RnB, techno or house or anything like that but more rock - Metallica, Gunners, Disturbed and also on the contrary I listen to Michael Buble anyway, I don't really want a sub as I have a LPG takn in the boot and don't want to take up any more room, and I figured since I don't really listen to 'bassey music' I wouldn't need one.
What do you think?
Thanks
Michael
yup, it'll be fine.....
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Well I don't own the 5 channel, it's just I found that amp on eBay, I have not purchased it yet. So a 4 channel will be fine, I'm guessing one for each 6" and 6x9". Would I be correct in saying the better the amp the more clean, crisp sound the speakers (providing there not shite) will be?
Thanks
not trying to convince you to get a sub but metallica and disturbed sound alot better with a sub...(but i like subs...)
I'd go with the Jaycar range - I have 6*9s, 6.5 splits up front, and one of their 4*50w amps. You could go a bigger amp, but that system goes louder than I can tolerate while sitting in the car. It hasn't been to full volume, ever. The quality of Precision Response is awesome for the price.
Important thing to get Metal sounding good is nice fast bass response, this best achieved with the smaller subs or good 6x9's but make sure they're mounted firm and have a big enough box behind them or the bass gets all mushy. Splits are cool for metal.
P.S. If you like metallica and also listen to micheal bubble then you'll also like Coal Chamber , Fear Factory and SLayer.
those 5channel "3600watt" amps on eBay are POS
Thanks guys, I appreciate singers that have good voices and Michael is one of thoseI'll look into those bands 5litre, only one I have heard of is Slayer.
I'll look into getting some Jaycar stuff too, what do you mean by having a 'big enough box behind them', do you mean an empty space behind the 6x9's?
Thanks
Yeah , if there isn't enough space behind them the bass gets all mushy. Its worse with some speakers than others. I had my 6x9's in those pre-made boxes from the auto shop and wasn't real happy with the sound, went shopping for new speakers and was told to try my existing speakers mounted in the doors (of my hilux ute) and that worked great and cost nothing.
I'd suggest 6" Splits for the front, they may cost more but definately worth it when it comes to sound quality. As its been suggested the Ebay amps arent very good and you would be better of getting a 4x50w Response amp from Jaycar, they are great bang for buck.
Is Jaycar a dealer or brand or both? IF a dealer, are there any in Melbourne. Thanks
Also will a 4x50W amp be enough to power two 6" splits (~220W) and two 6x9" (~300W) ???
jaycar is an electronics store. plenty in melbourne. theres one in ringwood but for others just check their website

Jaycar is a shop and a brand.
Ebay sells jaycar stuff at cheaper prices and why not get a little 8" sub and put it on your parcel shelf?

it this the amp your were talking about? (i have fast broadband so thats why i'm getting the links off ebay)
Metal music sounds pathetic without a sub. There's no substitute. Oh and Metallica is bassy music![]()

True metallica is 'bassy' and if thats as heavy as you listen to a big sub will sound excellent , but with heavier , faster metal the big subs just don't respond fast enough and small subs or good 6x9's can often sound better. I know some of that techo shite is mega fast but they use electronic drums and it doesn't seem to blur the beats together as badly.
it would sound much better if you could fit a 12" somewhere in the side of the boot or something, especially if you like your metallica loud
otherwise get a decent set of 6" splits for the front and decent 6x9's in the back and it will still sound quite good, also check the rms wattage of the speakers, the 220w and 300w will be max, if you put that much power to them you will blow them pretty quick, they should be between like 50 and 80w rms (some cheaper brands will boast higher but they arent really that good)
Guys...read his first post. He doesn't want the sub because he has a gas tank in the boot and all room is a premium.

You could always get a one or two small 8" subs and mount them under the parcel shelf, you could even get the factory ones that come on the calais, stato's etc. which will fit straight up and that should take care of the bass nicely.
