hey all
when i have my car sound system on accessories without the car running i have no problem but when i play the sound system with the car running i get a whining noise through my sub. if i accelerate i makes the noise even louder and more high pitched. does any know how to resolve this problem or has had this problem in the past?
cheers
rohan
are the signal wires (rca's) and power wires running next to eachother? if not check earths and connections.
rca lead is done one side of the car and the power and the system remote is done the other side of the car
it might not make a differece but which side did you run the rca's down? i know on the drivers side there are power wires also.
rcas are down passenger side
check all rca connections if one is lose then that will cause it
The grounding is the most likely cause
makes sure the ground wire is the same guage as the power wire.
then check that the grounding of the amplifier is solid (can't twist the terminal where it meets the body) and there is clean surface between the contact of the wire and the body of the car (sanded the metal of the car back so its shiny)
well the wire is twisted around a bolt on the under side of the parcel shelf. will get some terminal connectors tommorow and see if it fixes the problem. all rca connections are tight. head unit is pioneer and amp is fusion.
how come its a disaster waiting to happen?
Did you change anything recently? How long has it been doing it? Since you installed it or since you changed something?
I'm 99% sure your head unit's RCA ground is blown.
nah nothing changed since the sub went in. only started yesterday when the sub was wired in. fixed all connections today at work with terminals. got rid of most of the interference. i however did not rub the paint of the underside of the parcel shelf. so will do that later to see if it all dissappears.
cheers

its sounds like the fuel pump noise is whining through the sub. how do i check the blown rca ground?

The ground of the RCA doesn't flow any sound, it's just a ground link between the amp and head unit to sort of prevent noise.
If you can get to where the RCA's are plugged into the head unit at the back, get a bit of wire, touch one end to ground (anything that is definitely ground, like seat belt bolts, seat bolts, door hinge bolts) and the other end to the outer ring section of the RCA's while they are still plugged it. It should eb exposed anyway and easy enough to touch the wire to it. Then see if the noise comes and goes as you touch the wire to it and take it away.
The other way to test is remove the head unit from the car, then get a multimeter, test the resistance or continutity from the chassis of the head unit to the outer ring of the RCA sockets on the head unit. It should beep on the continuity test or so under 1 ohm on the ohmmeter.
if there still is the noise what can i do to get rid of it?
well goin to visit the auto elecs down the road from where i work tomoz ill let u kno how i go.
an actual car audio place would have a better understanding than an auto elec.
(not JB or Strathies though)
yea but that means i have to pay. i can get it looked at for free. plus the guys has been installing head units etc for the last 20 years. think i would trust him over a car audio place.
Auto elecs don't really know much about stereos and noise issues. They can wire up a head unit SOMETIMES but anymore than that and some have no idea. I se so many blown head units that have been installed by auto elecs because they've been installing for 20 years they think everything still uses common ground and short things out.
Stick to a specialist audio store, if you want your problem fixed properly, you might have to pay someone.
oh my god! oh my god!
i thought this whole car stereo thing could be done on the cheap?!?!?!
mate if you dont mind losing your car for a long time while the autoelec tries to figure out what the noise is coming from and takes many more hours to figure it out (if it was not free the labour costs would amount to more than getting a VERY good stereo place to do it).
depends if you see your wasted time as potentional money and by stufing around its just the same as getting it fixed properly and quickly by a spec. audio store.
yea i see ur point now. well he did the test on the rcas and that got rid of the interference as stoneX said. so im guessing i have a rca ground problem. well ill take it to autobarn on the weekend for them to have a look at and see if they can fix it. cheers all. did not mean to be rude by saying i want my to look at it just dont trust people like autobarn etc with my car lol. very sore spot with me thats all. had problems in the past.
