Default How to use the tools to remove an unknown brand cd player, with slots in the sides?

I bought an el-cheapo cd player fror my Mum's pulsar, but stuffed if i can figure out how to get the old radio out. It's not the original, as she had it replaced with some no-name thing.
Anyway, it's got 2 slots in the front, 1 each side, and the new cd player came with 2 strips of metal, that i've read somewhere, you just slide in the slot, and then out comes the radio.
But i've jiggled the things all over the place, and can't seem to get them to hit anything.
Any ideas? Is there a pin you lift, or hold them outwards whilst rying to slide it out?
    Any help or ideas appreciated.
    Thanks.

You will probably find that its been screwed in there, I never use those stupid metal tab releases when installing, its too easy for them to be stolen and generally easier to fit without. It shouldnt be too hard to take the dash surround of to get to the screws.

remove the ashtray at the bottom and look for screws on the bottom. You might find one or two. Then start to pull it away from the bottom and work your way upto the top.

YOu will probably find that it was ten times easier then you thought. IT just clips in...so it can just clip out.

Trust me, it's easy 5minutes to get that surround out.

It's a 1989 pulsar, manual, 4 door hatchback (?) If that's what they call them.
Went there to fix some other things up for her today, and couldn't get near the car.
Rain, sun, rain, hail, sun, wind, rain, and they don't have a garage. So no way was I going to get soaked for it.
Very much appreciate all the help offered here.

All done. Just to fill you's in, everything SHOULD have worked they way i'd figured. The old unit should have just slid straight out.
In the end, I had to rip/smash the front of the unit off, which then gave me access to the square metal cage, after i took the front console thingy off.
Why wouldn't the old unit come out?
Because the moron who installed it, used so much double sided tape to hold it it, that when I did get it out, I had to use a blade knife to slice my way through the tape. So rather than fix it in properly, he just taped it in. it was such a tight squeeze that some of the tape had rolled over, meaning i was never going to just slide it out.
Anyway, it's all done now, my Mum's happy, and she now understands never to get Autobarn to install anything again.
