Ive been looking into / Considering getting front and rear splits and a sub and amp for my car, and i constantly hear that Xplod is a crappy brand to go with, why is this? Is it true? And i always see Sony Xplod gear (subs, speakers) are always cheaper than the other brands??![]()
Does anyone have experience with these and have compared and stuff?
Any advice or knowledge n shit would be greatly appreciated
Thanx guyz n girlz!!![]()

Go have a listen to some and compare it some other brands mate. I would never use sony in my car.
But its all about personal preference. Personally I have a thing for Soundstream amps and their Tarantula speakers, pretty keen on focal splits too. And for some reason I love my pioneer subs and headunits.... Many will disagree and some will agree, so go listen to all the brands, see what you like and what you dont and go from there.

In my VL i had all sony gear. Headunit and speakers (6x9s and 6in), and it sounded pretty damn good for a basic system. I now use pioneer speakers and headunit with a sony sub in my VR and reckon both brands sound pretty good. A lot of people mix and match audio gear so you might find that you like sony speakers, pioneer headunits and clarion amps for example. Good luck with choosing audio gear mate there is a lot to choose from now days.
couldnt have said it better myself!!!
I have seen a few full car sony setups and have not been impressed at all. With the amount of rubbishing that sony gear gets, i thinks its safe to say that in general it is shit gear compared to most other brands. But as 1991_Vn2nV said, it basically comes down to personal preference. It's you thats gonna be listening to the stereo not us, so if you like the sound of it go for it.
If you are looking at buying your stez on a budget, jaycar gear is about the best bang for your buck.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people
i fit the crap all day long and i wouldnt put it in my car
Im running Jaycar Splits, Kenwood 6" , Response Amp, Pioneer sub and Sony HU. So i guess you could say my system is a bit mixed up with brands. However i find for the price the sony HU was very good value. Thats just my view
From what I've seen not all sony gear is bad, I tend to like their head units from my experience, their subs and speakers are not great though, which really gives them their bad name. Hell, even some of their amps can hit pretty hard. Either way though, I still wouldnt put any Sony gear in my car :P
Loud N' Low
I have just put a Clarion unit and speakers in my VS, sounds great pretty cheap too $700 installed from autobarn
Being Insane Keeps You Sane
SONY = SHIT
wouldnt touch it, wouldnt take it if it was given to me for free.
they are cheap and nasty and overstate there power outputs and there potential...you can hear the shit quality from them
personally i think pioneer for headunits is ahead of the pack and will only use them....
crossfire subs and amps from the US are insane...very good quality sound and build
i also put crossfire x6 splits which are competition ones in mine and they are insane....was a pioneer man for speaker too but after these crossfires in my r8 i will use nothing else anymore.
i used to be a big alpine fan but that has changed.....
been through clarion, jvc, alpine, kenwood, etc and after all of that i used none of them on my R8...it cost big $$$ but pisses all over the other shit i used in the past
Sony Head Units: Good
Sony Amps and Speakers: Bad
that is my opinion, as everyone else here has theirs.
I use a sony mp3 head unit which has not let me down in the 3 years I've had it. I quite like the interface for its convenience, I like the sound quality and adjustability and I like the style. Wouldn't touch sony amps and speakers with a ten foot pole however.
Other than the sony HU, I have JL Audio e1200 monoblock driving a Jaycar dual voice coil carbon fibre 300w RMS 12 inch sub and JL audio TR series splits connected directly to the sony HU.
I like this combination so much in fact that while I have had 3 different cars I have moved this same audio gear across all three of them.
* Phreddy's Blaupunkt Aux input and line out mod
* 18x8 inch Equus Kalibur Wheels with Maxxis MAV-1 235/40R18
* Sureflo 3.5 inch medium-loud cat back exhaust
i had a sony headunit up until about half a year ago, was decent with the setup i had, it didnt run amps very well tho so i flogged it off to a mates sister who put it in an old corolla with 4's and 6's and it seemed to power them ok so ill just leave it at that....
cant complain about the 4 channel amp i got tho that makes my speakers go BOOM![]()
ive had a couple of sony headunits running strong for over 6 years, there speakers are ok but there is better stuff out there in the same price range
i had a 10inch sony sub, one problem is, you cant find any info on it?? tried looking everywhere, enclosure sizes and what not. the speaker in the end did shit itself. and compared to a fusion sub (10inch also, same power rating) the fusion sub was considerably louder.
you can say that again

also will depend on the type of music you listen to... different systems output the bass levels and stuff differently(techas and rock wont sound the same out of the one system...) so i have to agree with vn2nv and suggest you go have a look around. If you wana get serious take a cd with ya so you can hear first hand what YOU will be listening to...

check it...
sony was good pre 2000 then went 2 sh*t up untill 2004 where there headunits ,amps and speakers all improved drastically altho there a bit pricy for the quality even if i have 3 sets ready 2 put in my car
...They are still shit now. 2004 onwards... Im sure in 2014 they will still be shit too.
hear hear i agree whole-heartidly
Sony anything = Shit... does that answer it? lol.
i've heard that a couple of sony's 6x9's are ok but im not keen on the rest of the range, the only thing i see going for a sony HU is the 3.5mm input. im using a low end pioneer HU and a basic pair of 6.5" 3ways in my parcel shelf, i need to get some reasonable splits for the front, some ampage and a sub for my setup but its money i never seem to have :'(
attn Über geeks, i play Second life. Patrio Graysmark.
I'm kind of getting attached to my headunit. I don't know why.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
Got Sony 'explodes' in the rear.....never again. I have heard that the HU's are pretty good, Just not great....
Got JVC dual pre-out atm- can't complain. Maybe looking at jaycar or pioneer splits front and pioneer 6.5" 3 ways rear hooked up to the u beaut Avalanche AV800 and get that damn sub enclosure done properly and hook the JVC 12" 600w sub to a monoblock Alpine...May want to change the sub (hopefully just an enclosure prob)tho' but dunno what to get there....
