    Question VY GTO radio Harness

    Hi
Been searching and haven't come up with anything in Aussie.

I read over at the ls1.com forum that in the USA they use a VW harnes to plug straight into the Pontiac GTO harnes.

I am wanting to install maybe a Kenwood DD unit to replace the factory unit.

I don't want to butcher the cars radio harnes and it would still enable me to put the factory HU easily back in if I sell the car .

Here is a link to the VW harness
    http://www.installer-data.com/item/d...php?it=99-3528

It is the one that plugs into the car Harness. and the aerial adapter

Also where would I find one of these units in Aussie
    http://www.pac-audio.com/products/pr...el%20Interface
They are direct wired into the car and are not a IR unit, so I would think that they don't have a delay like the IR units

Sorry for the long post but I have searched Jaycar and Ryda and various other sites but I cant find these things available in aussie.

Any help would be greatly appreciated please

most places will fit after market radio for tyou and they will leave your factory plug in there so you can repleace factory h/u when ya go to sell it
tell them to leave th plug incase you pick a dodgy place

    Thanks for the reply Daron.

I have spoken to a few places and some said they cut the plug off and some said they slice into behind the plug.

Was really after a plug and play type op with the VW style adapter
So very little has to be spliced into the factory harnes

splicing is fine it wont hurt anything
    90% cars have it down
ive been fitting for years and never had a problem
some plugs end up costing more than a standard install
also that pocket setup is aval in australia for 20 bux
most places sell them these days
its vy/vz pocket fits them all
ring round if ya need extra info throw me a pm

I have used Aeropro plugs in a couple installs and they work great. You will need an adaptor for the radio aerial as well.

Those PAC SWI-ALP units are for sale on eBay all the time. I understand that there's a Stinger unit that does the same job too, which is sold at JB HiFi.

    Thanks for your help Guys

So far I can get all the wiring harnes adapters

But I still can't get the Steering wheel adapter.

I have spoken to the Distributor of PAC products in australia ( Stinger).
And at present All the PAC SWI-ALP are the old revision ones and will only fit Alpine units.

The new 1.41 revision of the PAC SWI-ALP is not available in Australia yet. Stinger has a IR unit but there is a delay in the controls sensing.

The new revision 1.41 PAC SWI-ALP will suit ALP, Kenwood, JVC ETC
and the unit is not a IR type , it is a hard wired type so no delay in signals.

Yes i can buy off ebay but there is no guarantee that i would get the new revision to suit a Kenwood system.

Good old Australia, always last to get products.

I will keep you updated on how I go getting the new revision

They are $60 to 70 US dollars. for the new revision in the USA

But the Aussie 1 is the IR version and the old revision they sell over here are $300
And is slow to respond to commands

For about $250 Aussie I can get one new revision steering control, wiring harness for VY, Aerial adapter, and a custom made DD face plate to suit in USA

And in Australia i could get the old revision IR control which is slow at response, Aftermarket face plate made in asia which would have to be modified for DD unit and not as good as the custom made one from the USA, Wiring harness and aerial adapter for the grand total of $410 Aussie + modifying to face plate

So someone in australia is ripping off old joe public again
And you can't tell me it is shipping and import duty that makes the price so much

With that sort of markup, I should import them and retire

    Thanks for the ideas

I will have a look at the cat eyes. do you have link?

you can say that again, $300 is a rip off when I could buy the whole lot out of the USA cheaper

Will continue to look some more, But I think I have exhausted all avenues of retail and suppliers.

Probably have to try find some way and get all the install stuff out of the USA

I have been speaking to PAC in the USA. Just waiting for them to reply again.

As far as the new revision being sold in Australia, It's not a happening thing.

Just give me a little more time and I will get this sorted out over the next couple of weeks. Or I will organise for the stuff from the USA.

I am doing my best and I won't give up on this

Mate of mine got one in Auatralia.

Off hand I think they were about $100.00

Works fine as far as I am aware.
