I put some Sikaflex in the gaps of the boot joins to the boot lid to spare the vibration and "boot rattle" it worked well, reduced 90% of the boot rattle.. That seems to have worked off now, and the rattles are coming back. Anyone know a longer term solution.. How mcuh it costs to get it done/to do yourself?
well dynamat is like $30 a square meter or somethin ridiculous like that, a commy boot would need a shitload of it to stop boot rattles. tried carpet squares in the gaps and carpeting over it to neaten things up a bit??? stopped a few of my rattles in the ute as im to tight to buy that dynamat schtuff...
Dynamat and other sound deadeners are used to decrease the resonance of the panels behind speakers so that the is less interference, so that the speaker ends up sounding better.
To stop rattle you really need to locate them (mandantory to look like a retard pressing down on your interior to find them) then adhere some cloth or foam between the 2 contacting peices.
Yeah, if you go the way of a decent deadening mat like Dynamat Extreme you're looking at a couple of hundred dollars to for the boot. I managed to use more than an entire boot pack just on the boot walls, let alone boot floor or lid.
I'd just like to add, even though it's an old thread, I spent a day with round felt pads, and a tube of sikaflex goin around my car findin rattles. It's a 1990 VN, 320,000km on it, and now not a single rattle/vibration. It's worth the effort too, because if you do bog laps, it sounds cr@p having a car rattle and vibrate passed as opposed to one with nice deep bass coming through.
Don't hit kids. No seriously, they have guns now
ok well i will post in the resurected thread aswell.
are we talking about rattles of flexing of the metal?
many rattles will not be fixed slapping mat on them. its 2 things hitting, so you need to stop them hitting. silicon, expanda foam, closed cess foam and rubber are the tools to stop rattles.
Sound deading is designed to stop resonances as someone prolly said earlier not to stop rattles lol. best bet is to fix ya rattles and then sound deaden IMO.

and yet when you chuck a sheet behind the number plate all of a sudden the rattles there are gone... It can often work very well to stop rattles also by adding weight and reducing vibrations or by forming the barrier between two vibrating panels. But yeah, if eliminating rattles is the main aim, i'd be doing yourself a favour and pulling out the old closed cell foam and expander foam, you'll save yourself the cost of sound deadening material.
if you have a sedan, ride with the boot popped up just a lil, so the boot is not closed, it stops 85% of the boot lid rattle and the other15% is from the boot spoiler, the key lock and the platenumber.
and make sure your gas struts arent extremely strong..lol you pull to a stop and boot opens wide, but other than dat the down force will keep it from opening anyways and if it does shut..jus pull the boot lever
a much cheaper alternative to stop your panels from rattling is to remove the inside lining and get in between the panels and stuff the lot with old rags and clothing.. this goes for the boot lid aswell, massive gaps and holes so stuff em shut!...sure it may weigh down the vehicle by a few kilos, but so dus dynamat and sound deadening!..much more effective because your putting a hault to the autual culprit of the rattling and annoying vibrations!..and if you wish u may place dynamat etc to finish the jobitll sound great!

if you want ur boot to vibrate lyk hell, sound lyk shit and have annoying rattles take over ur bass...then by all means close ur boot shut and as for the exhaust fumes the sound pressure will push it straight back out thru the gaps of the opening
it all depends on how hard u play your bass..mine tops off at 136+dBs atmo
but if your a wuss and dont like to play your bass loud, close it
oh yea sure, sound deaden ur whole boot properly with the right materials
..because clearly, 16 year olds with casual jobs and who are full time students can obviously afford that.
ridah,
i was a student in year 12 when i did my doors properly.
if you like your bass loud and it tops off at 136db then you would surly know how many more db's you could get if you closed your boot and deadened properly.
hahah i would laugh so hard if i saw some dude cruisin down the street with his boot open haha my boot rattles like crazy at the moment but ill put up with it until next pay so i can sound deaden it properly.dont do half arsed job do it properly even if your car looks shitty for a while who cares real car enthusiests will know if its gettin done properly or not and isnt that who you want to impress not some kids on the side of the side of the road that think cannons make our car fast..![]()
is this guy seriouse about driving with his boot open? i thought he was joking haha.. obviously not.. i have to say mine doesnt rattle anymore! i took the boot garning off, padded it with that white shit u put in ur sub box.. screwed it back on, out some behind the number plate and it was gone.. my subs face the boot too and often move to the back right near the bootlid.. and its still not bad for how loud i have my subs.. im lucky i guess
Don't blame me, It's that damn percadan..
If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain...
