Default 7X10's - Are They Much Better Than 6X9's?

Pardon my ignorance - I don't know buger all about sound systems!

o.k, good quality 6X9's would naturally be better than crappy 7X10's - I just wonder why 7X10's don't seem to be very common.

Is it a problem to fit 7x10's in a VS?

How easy is it to modify front door pod to accept 6X9's in a VS? Is this stupid - should i just concentrate on getting good quality 6" speakers???

p.s - At this stage, I'm happy to have no sub - I just love plenty of midrange... I like to crank it till the midrange hurts... not into 20 million big subs pounding the pavement with out of proportion bass - its craps me off when people have real crappy midrange, and all this overdone bass...

I'm just having trouble getting my head around what size speakers to use where. Is the reason why everyone seems to go 6X9's in the back and 6's in the front simply for ease of fitting or what?

well as far as i know subs are put in the boot simply because theres more space and low frequency noises aren't directional
while your high frequency noises are directional which means you can hear where they are coming from.

6x9's are basically a mid range kind of speaker with a fairly decent low frequency. which are better put in the rear parcel shelf. While 6" splits are better in the front for the high frequency which is directional and is blasted into your ears while the low frequencies come from behind and from the boot (which you don't notice as they are indirectional)

thats how i see it anyway.. it could also be the fact that theres no way you could put 6x9's in the front doors :>

    Exclamation hmmm

when i eventually get my 12" sub for my commy, is there likely to be any real difference in sound/performance if i have it pointing into the car interior from the middle rear back rest (folded down), compared to just in the boot, conventional style?
    thanks in advance

Every Commodore with the sub facing into the car has had cancellation... You can hear it when you open the boot because the bass IN THE CAR gets louder with the boot open. This doesn't happen when the subs are facing rearward.

6"/6.5" are used because they give better sound than a 6x9/7x10. Midrange is better from the smaller speaker. 6x9/7x10 are midbass heavy.

There is a reason why very few put 6x9's in their doors...... its because a good set of 6inch splits sound so much better

Yeh imo 7x10's are way over rated. A good set off 6x9's on the self and some decent 6.5" splits in the doors will sounds pretty good.
