Default Aftermarket Head Unit in VZ

    Hi Everyone,

I am picking up my first commodore tonight a VZ acclaim. I was getting around in a lancer but finally decided to see the light....

This is going to be a stupid question but I had a look around through the other posts and couldn't really make out an answer out of them.

Im getting one of the new pionner double din dvd player / screen stacker combo soughta unit and was wondering how difficult it is to install an aftermarket unit into the VZ.

I haven't had a good chance to look at the dash but it looks like its going to take a fair bit of work due to the size of the original looking bigger then a double din size.

Sorry if it's a stupid question but I have never had a commodore before so I don't have a clue about this.

    Thanks guys

Not difficult at all - read a few more threads (there's a sticky with some basica answers at the top of the Audio page and you'll find some instructions.

You only need some bent wires (cut up a coat hanger) to remove the stock unit, then I would recommend buying an Aeropro adaptor to plug into the factory wires, rather than hacking up the factory wiring harness. Using an adaptor ensures you can re-fit your factory head unit quickly and easily. You will also need an adaptor for the radio aerial, since the factory one is a strange shape.

You're on your own as far as mounting the 2 units - there's a metal cage inside your dash (it surrounds the factory head unit) that you could fix your new head unit to, or you can buy some factory-appearance surrounds and modify them to suit. It's not rocket science and there's heaps of options, so don't be scared.

I Am about to have the kenwood DD DVD and Looking at the Aerpro wiring.
to save my cars harness being butchered

Not sure What you need the OEM mast replacement for?

Does your VZ have the Blaupunkt unit. If so you will need a Euro plug adapter for the aerial to plug into your new DD unit

Are you are talking to me about the adapters?

I have the harnes adapters and the aerial adapter.

Had problems trying to find the PAC SWI_ALP revision 1.413 steering wheel adapters in Aussie. the only place I can get them is in the USA.

I have spoken to Aussie Dist and they confirm none in Aussie and no time when they will or ever get them.

Spoken to PAC USA and they also confirmed none in Australia and maybe I could try a KIWI place or USA.

So I have everthing but the Steering Wheel interface
