I personally would go the shallow mount Pioneer Subs - TS-SW1241D which are $229.00. then you can mount them behind or under the seats.

THey are a very good sub, though it depends if you want 1000 RMS or 350RMS

IMHO... unless ur positive ya music needs it, 12s would be just overkill for a ute if your doin an install in a shallow enclosure... im running a single 8 inch 100wrms (200peak) ported and it puts out a decent punch... its not goin to tremor peoples belongings 100 metres away but it keeps up quite well with the JL splits with still more in it.. unless ya goin for SPL in that case go for ya life n install what u see fit but if ya want SQ u really need somethin just to complement your exsisting speakers if u have already gone and retrofitted with a decent set.. all to your own as you will be the main one listening to ya system.
meantime have fun and hope ya do very well with ya final choice
    Cheers, Bryan

i used to ahve a set of 6x9's in a ported box behind the passenger seat and that used to go pretty well for what they were. alot cheaper and easier to setup than a sub and they actually FIT....for some reason i can make a box that fits inbetween the seat rails and find a sub that fits in the box...i gave up a long time ago!!! and just slapped a 12 in the tray goes good enough for me

Personally I dont think that you need a sub in a ute, though having said that I would go for a 10" Infinity - something like a 1052w or similar and a really good set of Components for the doors, something like a Kappa Perferct 6.1 , or RF T162S, or similar.

The 6*9 are a good Idea again... pioneer do a nice see of 4 ways, another option... if you only go one sub and the spilts then you can get away with a very good four channel, that allows you to go to triway and is stable at 1 and 2 ohms.

Would not bother running alpine as they are no were near the Sound quality of the INFINITY or RF, though if you want SQ then infinity. Pioneer TS-C160R as a very good option as well.

I have a 12" setup next to the fuel tank. in my ute
IF I remember correctly it is about 12 screws in the tray and the panel comes up. Then all you need is a jigsaw and some MDF and you have a sub enclosure.

And is fairly easy to do, only a couple of hours work. and I am no carpenter

There should be 2 Black plates behind the passenger seat that you take off too for the wiring and the black tubes to go in

Got to watch the volume as the rear window shakes when you crack up the volume. becomes a liitle hard to see out the back window

I have two utes with subs in them:

VG Ute I have cut out the separating wall and mounted a aluminium box about 20-25 litres capacity and mounted 2 10inch subs into. "Masses of bass in a ute cabin"

VU SS Ute I have just sat two 8inch "Base tubes" and they kick ass.
and they are only wired up to the standard radio/CD deck.
