    Default Stereo and Airbag Help

Got a quick question for you guys

Doing the complete install on the weekend.
Question is: when I have the rear seat removed in the GTO for the install, I have heard that I must be very careful not to set the airbags off. can this happen with the airbags with the seat out?

And if so, How can I test the stereo system is working before I put all the seats and trim back in without me setting off the airbags?

I know to have the battery disconnected during install. But what about testing

help would be very much appreciated please

As you are aware the airbags are controlled by an electrical pulse which triggers the airbags.

As for you app I only assume that it has FRONT and PASSANGER AIRBAGS only... unless you remove the bumper as smash they YELLOW triggers I highly doubt you will trigger the airbags.

With the Volvo, Mercedes etc that have side curtain airbags this can be an issue when installing, though since you would not have these ... there is nothing to worry about

My only advise is dont touch the SRS circuits... as a pulse or short will trigger the airbags.

Make sure you have fuses installed proir to testing... and you should be fine.

Alot of installers will tell wives tales to stop people installing ... and in your case I think that this is the situation.

    Thanks for the help.
I have driver and passenger airbags and side airbags too in the HSV GTO Coupe.

Maybe I saw it on a international forum about removing the back seat in the GTO Coupe an setting off the airbags

We have not done the GTO before.

If you know where the sensor for the side airbags you will just need to avoid it.... say it will behind the trim in the "A" pillar.... might be that some people have taken the rear seat out of the car and forced it out through the door and hit or damaged the yellow sensor for the airbag...... so watch the part of the trim on the same side as the striker plate..

So what did you end up with??

    Thanks.
I will have to to remove the rear side panels too, which is a bit of a worry.

I ended up with just a average system because I am saving some money for a Twin Turbo setup

    Kenwood DDX 6039 HU
    Kenwood KNA-430 SAT NAV
Pac SWI-ALP Revision 1.416( Not available in Aussie) and is wired ,not IR
    Alpine SPR-17LS Front
    Alpine SPR-17LP Rear shelf
    About 8km of cable
Jaycar AA-0426 AMP . Got talked into it today when picked up cable today
Alpine 12" Sub ( Old one I had sitting aroud and a Pioneer AMP for it.
    And a reverse camera

I know it's just a average system, But I am really looking forward to some Turbo's

The GTO does have side airbags. From memory it was an option in the Monaro.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

    untrue i'd say.

the wires trace back into the c o c k pit. if you short them out you can trigger the bags.

when you install electrical in a car with airbags it is always smart to disconnect the battery and from memory let the car sit for 10mins before you touch it because a slight pulse may set ur airbags off.

    Thanks for some help guys

Yes Battery always disconnected when installing.

The main Question is if I test the system with the rear seat and front and rear side panels removed, will this set the side airbags?

I am not touching any of the airbag wiring

Dont worry about the airbags as long as you have the battery disconnected and dont hit the sensors hard i.e. hammer or something heavy youll be fine - slight bumps dont do shit. In my VY the sensors are at the bottom of the pillar between the front and rear doors youll see it when you take the trim off. Dont know where they are on front side pillars but i imagine they will be just behind the trim also.
You wont set them off while testing, tested mine nothing happed, the only way youll set them off is if you purposely hit them with something - youll be fine.

If your not touching the wiring then you have absolutly nothing to worry about.

    Thanks Guy's fot the reply

Got all the interior out now. Just trying to find a place to put the AMP power wire through the firewall..
Searched for an hour but can't find the gromet people are talking about. Somewhere near the Brake booster I think?
Trying for a drivers side power and a passenger side for the Audio.

The only place I think to put the Amp power is in the bonnet cable gromet.

Any know of another place for power wire on drivers side please?

on the drivers side behind the rear quater panel, there is a small box with it a thing that stuck on it looks like a tweeter , the box is about the size of a packet of smokes. What would this be?

My car is a HSV GTO Coupe

on both sides or just the one??

usually the crush box is only the size of a relay... and a bright colour such as YELLOW OR ORANGE...
