Help Choosing Speaker System

Hey everyone, i have a VT 97 model with the stock speakers, except i have a kenwood headunit, its a bit old so it will probebly need replacing...as i want my ipod to plug into it.

But anyway here my question lies, i have no idea what to buy for my car, do i replace every speaker? the 6x9's, the splits? the back?

I was thinking i do have a bit of a budget, so i would like to spend as little as possible but still have something decent. Can anybody reccomend me anything? Im not sure if i want a sub, can you just get good quality 6x9's and crank up the bass on them?

Also is it relitivley easy to hook up? my rear left speaker isn't working, the speaker is fine itself as ive tested it, it just doesn't seem to be plugged into the headunit...why i have no idea....

But yer, i just need some ideas on what to buy, and what to look for in spec's to distinguish good ones from bad

Would i need a amp? Or can everything just be run off the headunit, Sorry if it sounds real dumb im new to all this car business

Amps would b ideal if u want bass with no sub 2 get the most outer ur speakers. also might pay 2 go in and listen 2 some speakers set up on display if they r cheap and u like the sound of em get em or even listen 2 a mates car set up its really personal preference at the end of the day and that varies from person 2 person so ur best up makin the decision urself

Brands...um i guess id like to stick to brand names, Was looking on ebay but a bit scepticle with how they are... Im thinking Pioneer, Alpine, Sony? Would i need a amp if i had a sub? Do 6x9's produce decent bass?

people on here will tell u most of the ebay stuff is refurbished but i guess as a cheap option its a chance u have 2 take i actually got those 6x9s in my car (off ebay 2 lol) recently, after uve heard a sub u wont go back 2 not having a sub ay but they rnt 2 bad wen powered by an amp but u can get better with out a sub i think the 6" or 6.5" r better if u want bass with no sub

Arh ok, how are they without an amp? what do you mean by 6" and 6.5"? do you mean the speakers on the doors? And yer i guess i would try and avoid a sub atm, but still get some bass from the speakers if thats possible.

yer they r the type that fit into ur doors but u can put some in ur rear parcel shelf if u wish instead of the rear doors but would require some work. ummm with out an amp 2 b honest i cant tell u from experience ive always had an amp running my speakers but id assume they would perform good u just wont get the most out of them and prolly not the bass ur after but u can always add a sub later on down the track but yer like i said try go listen 2 some set ups pioneer have a fair few set ups in shops 4 u 2 choose from if thats the brand u go with
