    Default jaycar splits

Will the 6.5" jaycar splits fit straight into the VR door pods without any modifications at all?

Also, is there much difference in SQ between the 6" jaycar splits and the 6.5" ones?

Is it worth the extra $10-$15 for 6.5"s????/

    Thanks

dawg, i put some 6.5" axis cheapo speakers in dads vr the other day, we had to shave off a bit of plastic around the bottom so it would slot in, but thats because the speaker had a folded lip around it.

not sure whether the jaycar ones have the lip, but very minimal work should be needed to fit them.

i didnt realise they did 2 different size splits?

i knew they did a 6" 2 way and a 6.5" split. is that what you mean?

Responce 2 kinds of kevlar splits, the 6" and the 6.5"
I got the 6"'s cos i know they fit into a VR door pod. If you can get them to fit then i guess its worth while investent, depends on the effort your willing to put in.

Edit: I have the Jaycar 6.5 " splits in my VS doors they do fit but only with 2 screws. And they may not be a high priced item but for the price they are bloody good despite what this other guy will tell you.

I'd like to know the answer to this too. I'm sick of the stock speakers in my VS and wouldn't mind replacing them with something a little better. I don't have heaps of money to throw around so I was thinking of getting the Jaycar splits, I know that they are decent quality for the price.
If the 6.5" speaker fits then I'll definitely want to get that over the 6".

Normally to get a decent pair of Components to fit you will need to cut the end off of the Plastic Pod behind the Door Card to enable the Magnet/ basket to fit.

Thanks for that... very quick reply.
Sounds like an easy enough mod. If that's all it takes to get a 6.5" to fit then I'll have to go for that then. Is it as simple as it sounds though? I should really have a look at it when I get some time.

95% of 6.5 splits will need the door pod to be enlarged....the other 5%? Well...I'm sure if their owners read the box properly they will find that they are infact holding 6" speakers and not 6.5".

How do they sound? Heaps better than the stocks I'd think.

Do you have them running off an amp or just off your head unit? And also, did you sound deaden your doors?

Sorry for all the questions... but I'm looking at getting these speakers when I have a little spare money and won't really be able to afford an amp or the sound deadener, so I'm wondering how they go without them.

i would never mount a decent pair of speakers in that plastic rubbish holden has made to hold their speakers. utter junk.
you will only get as much as you put in. if you just cut the pod and it takes 5 minutes expect the equivelent in performance. if thats all some people want then its the right thing to do, otherwise its mdf and fiberglass.

Buddy my speakers are running off the HU, And no i have no sound deadning. And they still sound really good for the price. I have even had mates that have splits worth hundreds comment on how good they sound.

Are you saying to build up custom pods somehow? What would the advantage of this be?

    yup.
the plastic pod will have nasty resonences and also sometimes the speakers will needed to be mounted on a different angle to stop the basket/magnet comming into contact with the door innards.
if the magnet comes close to a piece of metal it will distort the magnetic field, thus alter its strength in different locations. this will change the characteristics of the speaker negatively, resulting in worse SQ.

Hey my 6x9s in the back are sitting on the wooden parcel shelf on top of the metal parcel shelf. The magnet is only a few mm's ontop of the metal parcel shelf. Would this be the reason why my speakers are distorting when turn up to a medium to high volume? Cheers.

nup that would be for one of two reasons...

A, your pushing to much power into them

B, your headunit is not pushing enough power into them.

My head unit is 50X4 watts. Would that be enough? Do amps realy make a big difference or are they mainly for subs?

what will happen if ya have a speaker in the front door pods, and you can feel the magnet slightly grab the door frame when its sitting in place?
