Hey There![]()
I am going to be purchasing a VY commodore soon with the next 6 months.
I am wondering what are the biggest subs that someone has fitten into there
Boot of there VY commodore.
As i am thinking maybe 2x15inch subs but i am curious to the fact if anyone else has fitted them into a VY as of yet.
Also it more then likey it wont be a custom install as well, but either way i am wanting to know if anyone has fitted them into a VY boot
Thanks If some advice could be given on this that would be great.

Although I know you just want an answer to the question, I'm curious why you would want 2 15's in the boot? Is the car going to be a dB Drag competitor?
* Phreddy's Blaupunkt Aux input and line out mod
* 18x8 inch Equus Kalibur Wheels with Maxxis MAV-1 235/40R18
* Sureflo 3.5 inch medium-loud cat back exhaust
blaupunkt make quality 18" subs now
I would just get one 15" or a really good 12" sub mated with a good amp is enough. No need to go overboard here so save some cash for something else.
i dont think that 2 15's would suit your taste of music. 1 12 inch sub in a well designed ported box should do fine
It depends how much bass you like... I've got 2 good 12's and it's still not loud enough.
Two 15's should be an easy fit if you don't care about getting your spare out.
considering most metal has very little bass just get a boxed 12 you can easy remove and mount the amps in the spare tyre well, just like me!
mabey you listen to the wrong metal??? i had 2 12's in the boot of my old car and i listen to everything from seether to pungent stench, slayer to napalm death, nothing beats the sound of double kick and blast beats pounding on subs,
15s dont really move quick enough for the faster metal i would go for 12's at the biggest
hav 1 12 in my ute now...... i miss the other 1
Japanese scientists have created a camera with such speed that they now can photograph a woman with her mouth shut!
i'd recommend 1 15" or 2 12".
mate has 2 12" in his vy and there is basically no boot space left at all. i'd say you'd struggle to get to 15" in there.
also note that if you cover the whole back wall where the rear seats are you wont be able to open your boot. as my mate locked is car but had his boot opened and then left his keys in the boot. couldnt get in RACV called also couldnt get in, had to go home get his spare key.
I think one really decent 12" coupled with a good amp should do the trick...
people seem to think they need more speakers when it sounds crap... most of the time its just that they were using crap gear to begin with.

Metal Man, dont listen to these haters!!! Get them 2 15's and f**kin ROCK-ON!!! *insert metal salute here* The only caveat is as Stone has said there wont be much room in the boot after depending on what box setup you go with - a sealed box you'll only need maybe ~5cuft enclosure depending on the sub. And a good 15 will decimate all! What subs were you looking at getting?

Hey Again....![]()
The money i am thinking of spending would be $2000 on a stereo system including everything.
Head Unit
speaker
Subs
Amps
Coool I do agree with stonex i love the bass espesically Metal, *insert metal salute here* Double kicking Drums oh yeah & heavy Metal Vocals like Slipknot & Parkway Drive heavy hardcore and metal is the stuff !!!!![]()
Could you guys give me some suggestions on what gear i should get that would be decent for the price i am wanting to spend.
If you good do that would be awesome as.![]()
When I wrote that I hadn't noticed your name... 2x12's is heaps for metal and 15's won't suit that music unless they are very expensive 15's.
If you like serious bass then I would look at SVC subs or a DVC in a ported enclosure
As for you Price Bracket it is easier to start with the subs and amp then work backwards
Head Unit - Pioneer DEH-P7950UB - $499.00
speaker--- RF T162S or Pioneer TS-C160R both ($419.00 each)
Subs ----- RF P212D4 or Alpine SWR-1242D4 or Pioneer TS-307W all about $540 a pair.
Amps ---- EFX PRO HD-5001 ($319) - 500 RMS @ 4ohm if you wired your subs to 4 ohm.
---- EFX PRO HD-7004 - 100 RMS x 4 @ 4ohms ($299)
SUB TOTAL : ===== $2076.00
Wiring: --- RF Dual Amp kit - 4ga includes fuse holder $200.00
Distribution: EFX PDMWF2D -- $100.00
Battery Clamps: EFX PODi and PDBTD $120.00
Capacitor: RF CPCD10-03 1 farard -- $200.00
TOTAL: $2600.00 approx
Though you could go a GM-7200F ($329.00) or the RF P850.4($749.00)
seriously worth looking at the EFX PRO HD7004 and PRO HD5001 which are brilliant

Hey There Daron.![]()
This one is for you. In Your sweet ride that you have there are those subs Dual 15 Inch or Dual 12 Inch Subs.
If you could let me know that would be great. Thanks![]()
Nice setup indeed Daron.
They would be 15s I think - 12" can fit beneath the parcel shelf - those puppies sure don't!(unless that's a false floor screwing up my calibrated eyeball...)

Hey,
That sounds awesome as cant wait to deck out my VY when i get it and get dual 15" Subs in my Car.
Thanks For Some handy infomation.
I have defently taken it on board.
Make sure you spend over $500 per sub if you're going 15's, anything less doesn't sound good (to me). I bought a $1,100 15" sub and it still didn't suit all my music. 12's are much easier to make sound good, 15's will need alot of enclosure experimentation to get them sounding anywhere near as good.
$2000 is not going to go far if your set on 15's. Best look at 12's IMO. What is it your after? Big Bass? 12's will still be plenty loud if set up correctly and generally can out perform a set of 15's in terms of response IMO
wtb: rockford fosgate sub rfp 3412
Hifonics do a nice 15" ... there XX-3215 or BX-15D4 both nice subs
The XX-3215 is 3200RMS - comp sub. ... bewared though you will need about a 3 - 3.5 cuft enclosure for one!

i'd go with 12"s... 15 inch subs have a slow response, listen to them at a quality car audio joint (i did the other day at the lifestyle store parramatta)... big difference, unless you can set them up properly which would probbably be way out of your $2000 dollar range (good quality mono block etc) unless you just want big subs for show?
no matter how big the subs, it's always the quality which finishes first.
my brother has 2 12" rockford fosgates, they pump harder then a fire hydrant.
rockford are by far the best for subs/amps etc. if you're going to do it. do it right, instead of being dissapointed 4 months or so down the track when your equiptment is worth nothing.
