    Default Sat Nav

    Hey Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post but I thought its pretty closely related to car audio and hopefuly some of u gurus can help.

Basically I want to buy some sort of sat nav device, we are going on a holiday to qld in easter and would like it for then. I know very little about these things and to be honest I have heard nothing but bad reviews about them altogether. My parents bought a navman and the details were way out of date, at least 8 years out of date in fact. Another friend has one and says its a useless pos. So I want to know is this the general consensus? Are they completely useless pieces of crap or does it depend on what you buy.

I would prefer not to get a portable one as we have 3 monitors in the car already so it would be a waste. Any recommendations would be most appreciated

    Cheers

    Hi there,

As I posted else where, I have a Tomtom 910 and can highly recommend it. Even the cheaper Tomtom models seem to run on the same software but have less features. (If I were paying for it myself I'd get a 610 or TT one).

I had the opportunity to use a Navman for a few hours today and found it very similar to the 910. (I suspect they both use the same data which comes from sensis (telstra)). Both units are exceptionally good however the TT seemed to handle things when I took a different route better and I find the interface easier to use.

Tons of interesting crap can be found on the NavNerd forums http://www.pocketgpsworld.com and http://www.yournav.com/ or just google for poi's and voices etc etc. Some people even over clock the f@!%ers - serious geeks!

The 910 is a very nice unit though depends on the $$$$$ you wish to spend.

I much prefer the software, menu and SPEED of the TOMTOM over the NAVMAN any day as we found the NAVMAN very slow compared to the TOMTOM.

The 2nd generation of TOMTOM are extremely quick on the GPS!
