hi, just installing a mates headunit we got everything up and running except for the amp, (speakers were working fine. off the headunit) i turned everything off, hooked the amp and sub up, turned it back on and only the sub was working, speakers were NOT working. i took the amp back off but still the speakers running off the headunit were not working. what do you think i have done. i thought maybe i have blown the sound out put. any second opinion.

The is nothing wrong with the Pioneer they have a Circuit Protector on the PCB which will blow ... easy fix...
it is the most common warranty claim with an pioneer unit. as some one connected the RCA and shorted them out before hooking them into the Amp.
Any other unit other than Pioneer it will blow the Power ICs.. the Mofset Power IC for the Preout.
Giving you no power out on the Preouts, so the only way to get sound is to run it through an amp!
But the the cheaper models can not say unless we know the model... though bout bet on it being a blown Power IC!

Disconnect all the speaker wires from in, then get a spare speaker (even a house speaker) and wire it up to one set of speaker wires from the head unit... Do you get sound? If so, keep testing each set of speaker wires from the head unit. If they all work trying hooking the car speaker wires back up one at a time until you don't get sound... When you get no sound, you've found your problem speaker or wiring to speaker.
If you have no sound when testing the one speaker, it's most likely blown.
sounds expensive, and its not even my Fu***n car, doing it to help a mate out, what are the chances they will fix it under warranty?
johnny
You'd have to ask a Sony dealer. I know some other brands let it go once as it might have been the unit's fault, not the installers.
well this also happened to be a display unit, so his going to put it to them that it was never working in the first place, and they must have done it when ripping it out of the wall. how do you reckon he will go with that?
johnny
thats wat i hate, at least if i had an answer lol i could go about trying to rectify the problem. but now i have to wait untill they send it away and get a phone call back from sony and so on and on and on untill they eventually come to a conclusion that they are not going to fix it for free.
johnny
lol not mine to do the whinging.

alright people, sound out put was fine, turns out i hooked a speaker wire into 2 different positions(i know, i don't know how i did it either) so the power was running in a big circle, so sound output shut off, i guess to stop causing damage, gotta give sony credit there. once the wire was disconnected, head unit worked fine. lol thank god, no money needs to be thrown down the drain.
cheers johnny
