Hey Guys/Gals
Alright i wanna do this but i dont know much bout all that wiring **** so just wondering if it is possible to hook this gear up?
alright i wanna hook up a screen somewhere above my head unit i wanna hook up a ps2 to the screen and have the screen ps2 and the head unit and the screens all runnign together and i wanna throw to small screens in the back of the front head rest for the people in the back which i also want hooked up to all the other gear and also i have a 6-9's in the back a 500w boss amp and 12inch boss sub!!!!
Please dont laugh if this is a dumb question lol
so can it be done ???????
Cheers
Not dumb at all
Yes can be done... My wifes car has a avx2 in the front with two sunvisor mounted Toshiba 9.2" screens in them... plus the two in the head rests.... the screens in the headrests have an video input which allows the rear passanger to plug in a game console, digital camers or video camera, IPOD VIDEO etc which is great
Also the AVX2 allows for dual zone meaning the say the rear screens have a DVD playing on them with sound coming via the Head phone that I have hooked up for the rear passangers and the to the front you can have a CD, Tuner etc playing and coming through the speakers.
Though getting on to your system... really need to know what the Head unit is so can work out the wiring for you, rcas etc

First thing's first... get rid of the Boss gear and get put something decent into your system. That 500W amp is only pushing out a fraction of that amount.. they like to use big (fake) numbers to sell their stuff... at least look for gear that displays their WRMS rating, much more important than crappy W max figures.
Secondly... anything is possible when it comes to electronics. Some things are just more complicated than others, but there is always a way.
But yeah I'd definitely be spending my money on replacing that Boss gear before I started putting screens in. That's just me though... if your happy with the Boss stuff then keep it, but you'd be amazed how much better it can sound with decent equipment. Look at Jaycar for decent gear at a good price, or talk to CAFO about the EFX gear he stocks, he rates it higher than Jaycar's gear at around the same cost.
if it is a slave screen which does not fold in, YOu can take out the heater vents above head unit and mount with brackets. If it folds into a din size i.e same size as headunit, then you can mount head unit directly below where it is now by cutting the back part of the pocket. if your original head unit has and auxillary audio input you can run audio from your ps2 to that. If not you will have to get an fm modulator and set a frquency on your radio to get audio. you will need to split the video out from ps2 to 3 outputs using two female to two male rca splitters. Bearing in mind that video signal quality will be slightly affected by sending it too 3 screens at once. if your boss amp is a 4 channel then you can run the 6 x 9's and sub of it. you will need two 5 mtr rca leads for that and 6 and a half mtrs of 8 gauge power wire. you will need a 3 mtr rca lead going to one of your video signal splitters run down centre console, under seat rails and up into seat for your screens. the ps2 can fit either in glove box, under glove box or under seat. also you will need 5 mtrs of trigger wire for the amp about 2-3 metres of at least 16 gauge speaker wire for your 6 x 9's and sub.
You would be going from bad to worse or bad to bad with going from BOSS to RESPONSE or JAYCAR though that is me.
Cheers

Wow thanks guys u really went into detail just wanted to know if it was possible but thanks heaps aye i will refer back here when i start the project umm what would be a good brand for the screens like want some fairly good quality?
what do you mean car audio factory out let????
TOSHIBA are the only ones to get as they are made in JAPAN and will last forever and a day
The CHEAP CRAP coming out of CHINA especially the LG screens last 3 -6 months on average from daily use and you end up with a green and blue line about 2 inches wide down the screens
The Toshiba 9.2" including the headrest are $480.00 a pair.

You're kidding me aren't you? You put Boss in the same league as Response, or possibly even higher? That my friend, is a real laugh. I know you really don't like Jaycar's gear... but to say they are as bad as Boss is just unbelievable.
Boss amps have a bad reputation for overheating and in many cases, catching fire! They use bad marketing strategies to sell their gear, ie. false Wattage ratings, 1000W my ass! Their build quality is crap, and the sound they produce is crap (includes gear across their whole range, amps, speakers and subs). I would never use their sh*t in my car even if I was paid to do so.
Jaycar at least use good quality gear. In my experiences their amps have never overheated on me, and even if they did they would quickly go into standby mode to protect itself. These things don't start car fires like Boss do. They also display their real power outputs in Watts RMS, so you really know the true power that you will receive from them. And from what I have heard, their advertised Wrms figures are lower than their actual output, according to tests carried out on their amps. For example, their 4x100 Wrms amp actually puts out something closer to 4x130 Wrms. No false advertising there! The only negative thing I can say about their amps is they put out a bit of a hissing sound, but it is only noticeable when the music dies down and the audio is silent. Their gear is rated by many experts as highly as the mid level gear you get from brands like Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony etc, and sometimes even higher. And considering you pay much much less for their gear, you are getting a f***ing great deal.
Anyway that's enough carrying on... bit of a pointless debate anyway as anyone with any knowledge of car audio know that Boss gear is not worth a sack of sh*t... whereas Jaycar gear is decent and definitely the best bang for your buck gear on the market.
so you recon i should just throw my boss gear straght in the bin??? lol![]()

In my opinion, that's all it's good for... but nah I wouldn't just go and throw it out. For now I'm sure it's doing something, producing some sort of bass for your system so keep it there until you can get better gear, just get yourself a fire extinguisher incase the amp catches on fire.
Then when you do get some better equipment, sell the Boss stuff to someone else. Sell it to a friend that has listened to it and likes it, or even put it on eBay. People pay some ridiculous prices for things on eBay... either way you'll be able to make a few dollars off it.
yeh i wanna have some sort of system in it dont wanna crusie around with no tunes stuff that yeh what do u recomend as a good brand???

Have you got a Jaycar Electronics store near you? If you do, go check out their range of amps, and even subs and speakers. Their car audio gear is badged with the Response brand name. Many experts rate their gear up with brands like Pioneer, Sony, JBL, Kenwood etc. But it costs a fraction of those better known brands. If you're on a somewhat tight budget, I'd definitely recommend them.

If you want to spend a bit of money and get good gear, look at brands like Rockford Fosgate, Focal, Digital Designs, Acoustic Audio, Infinity, audison, morel, hertz etc.
There's plenty of very good brands out there, just do your research before buying anything. Use forums like this one, or the CAA (Car Audio Australia) forums. CAA will have answers for any questions you could ask... heaps of expertise over there with a lot of cool people willing to help out. Also remember to listen to the equipment before you buy it... don't just go buying stuff because somebody else recommended it to you, you need to buy the gear that sounds best to you, not someone else.

There is a Jaycar at Moorooka... again if you are looking at Jaycar then you should be looking at the EFX range from Scosche USA.

Jaycar sell decent gear for the price. Quality is up there with better known entry level gear such as Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, JVC, etc. But it costs heaps less. People say it is excellent value, and the best bang for buck stuff out there. For some reason CAFO doesn't like their gear at all, but that's alright, each to their own opinion. He speaks highly of the EFX gear he stocks which apparently compares closely to the price range of Jaycar gear, so that may also be a good option on a tight budget. Talk to him about your options and prices.
Having said that, there is much better gear out there, but you need to be willing to spend a fair bit more to get it. Brands like DD, Morel, Hertz, Acoustic Audio, Audison, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Focal etc.
If you really do want to upgrade your sound system, work out your budget and let us know what it is. Your budget will determine the quality of the gear you can afford to buy.
