im not sure of any of its measurements, i bought it with a similar 12" in it,
but my question is, its an empty ported box, if i were to fill it with sum foam or wateva will it make a difference, better / worse...? i duno if i've heard of that many ported boxes with padding

Just fill it up and see if it makes any difference, would be easier than waiting for ppl to give u a answer.

My proted box only has a thin wall of fill in it, where as my previous sealed box was filled with the stuff.

I recon it wont make any noticable difference, may make it worse as it could take up that extra space needed for best preformance.

Im not really sure on this topic but try it ur self see wat u recon.

Calais_cruzin' got it right there. Most boxes will benefit from some damping material, but you can get to the point where the volume taken up by that filling material starts to subtract from the total box volume, resulting in an untuned system.

You aso have to be careful in just "changing the driver" in a ported box, as different brand drivers - even if they look the same size-wise and so on - will most likely have different parameters. Sealed boxes aren't so critical, but ported boxes are designed around some pretty funky calculations, in which the individual driver parameters certainly do come into play.

Still, the bottom line is - give it a try and see what you think. If it starts to sound a bit "boomy" and under-damped, try adding a bit more - but conversely, adding too much will also make the eclosure sound boomy.

Anyhow, just a couple of guidelines - might help you get on track.

cheers guys, might c if ive got sum material lying around 2 try it

as for chukin a different driver into a ported box, i should have explained abit more, both tha subs are virtually tha same, both Audiobahn 12" single voice coil subs, my new one is slightly more powerfull, but pretty much tha same, although i havnt compared each of there recommended box sizes up togetha

Not quite. Depending on what he uses for filler, it is generally used in SEALED boxes to INCREASE the volume of a box that is too small - which is why your past sealed boxes have been stuffed with it, not just on the walls like in your ported box, which has probably been put there for resonance or something. As Phreddy has pointed out, add too much fill in this sealed application and it starts to have a negative effect on volume.

Generally, it isnt effective and potentially messy in a ported box as it can get blown out the port depending how you use it. I suspect as the same company has made the subs they'll be close enough. Post up the Thiele small and you'll know for sure, but as you've already got the fill, follow the advice of Phreddy and Calais_Cruzn and let your ears decide, although i wouldnt.
